Ponting is quite simply outstanding. Pity Clarke couldn't stick around with him, would've been good to see him notch up another half ton.

Would bring Johnson in for Lee next game tbh, let him fully get over his virus. If he's over it, then Johnson in for Tait.

Nope i would still presist with Tait and probably rest Lee in and bring Johnson instead of him, i think Tait shouldn't be given the new ball he struggles to control the swing of the new-white ball and sprays it all over and he bowls a lot better with a slightly older ball.

Yeah, give the new ball to Dave Hussey.

Dunno about that. I've seen him do some damage with the new pill.

I'm in favour of giving Lee a rest too. He bowled well, but he's obviously not feeling very well, and to add to that, he's played every single match we've played this season. Every T20, Test ODI and even warm-ups...as well as a couple of state games..So resting him should be a precautionary measure more than anything.

I was quite surprised that Vettori choose to bat first, considering our only realistic chance of winning a match in this series would be to bowl first, keep Australia to a gettable total, and then hope our batting comes good. There's no way we're ever going to defend anything given how poor the current bowling lineup looks.

No surprise that Ponting got a ton, I mean it must be strange for him not to have tonned up yet this summer. He must of been feeling sick.

Comfortable victory. Australia quite simply far, far, far too good for the Kiwis.

Brilliant knock by Ponting, brilliant knock by Gilchrist.

Oram's innings at the end was poor IMO. Really should've accelerated much sooner.
True but you can't expect to be relying on him to bail you (I mean 3rd person you) out every single time. Putting batsmen in their proper order (like Sinclair) and other players pulling their finger out or getting out to crap shots (like McCullum) so the onus must go to them as well.

It's Adelaide. If you don't want to bat first in Adelaide, you don't anywhere. I'm surprised you're surprised.

I completed a course on Astrology yesterday. I know a little bit of Numerology too. According to these, I applied the science of Astrology & numerology to cricket. Ofcourse, this is my first prediction of this kind, I may be wrong. I am giving a shot now.

My Prediction:
2nd ODI Aus vs NZ

Toss: Australia wins and put NZ to bat

NZ will lose early wickets most probably 3-4 in the first 15 - 20 overs. NZ middle order will take the responsibility to score some runs on board. They will take the runrate at 3.5 in the middle overs. Just when they try to accelerate, they lose their wickets and end up in the score zone of 200 - 220

Chasing the score of 200 - 220, Australians too will lose couple of early wickets. But they will not stop them winning the 2nd ODI. They will go on to win the match with 6 wickets remaining.

Doesn't matter where you're playing or how good the pitch is. If you've got a good batting lineup and a rubbish bowling lineup, the best option is invariably to bowl first.

????????????????????????????????????/

If you have a good batting line up and a crap bowling line up you bat first, get some runs on the board and than hopfully the pressure of runs on the board force the opposition into mistakes.

In the past New Zealand have been great chasers but the current batting form indicates that a large run chase against quality bowling could be too much.

In the past there was Bond to get some early wickets and than toss the balls to the medium paces and Vettori to control the run rate, but until a bowlers shows he can be relied on to be able to make inroads into a batting line up I don’t think chasing is your best option.

for Mine Dan made the right call. I will wait to see the state of the pitch tomorrow as Sydney has been wet for a while before I would make a call on what to do if winning the toss.

goodluck on the perdiction.. i think the kiwis will swap sinclair and stryis around..if we are batting second if we bat first sinclair could come in before taylor..thats if we lose 2 early wickets...

Obviously a cracking pitch to bat on. What's a par score guys?
310 I reckon. 300 should be chaseable and New Zealand should look at aiming for 320.
It is a very flat pitch with a bit of bounce (though not any where near Perth like). Expect Australia to chase 300 on this pitch..
280 is defendable on this pitch. It's quite slow already will get slower as the night goes on, not many teams win batting second in Adelaide. Plus, there's a huge could cover coming in without a massive drop in temps (about 30-odd degrees right now) which means humid conditions and lots of swing. If NZ make it to 260, they'll be in with a good chance. 280 will be very tough to chase down.

Hopes was excellent. Really pegged back the run rate when NZ were in a damn good position around the 15 over mark. And that's what he's good for in ODI cricket. Will never be a huge wicket taker, but is brilliant at keeping the runs down. Really underrated ODI 5th bowling option.
i know un-aussie fans who are jealous to hear that Hopes bowls at 135k when he wants to  ..as he is our 5th bowler ..and there main bowlers struggle for that sometimes (or the same)
he is one of the best domestic one day bowlers in Australia though.. for him to be our #5 bowler is very useful..and i actually rate his batting really high too (as he use to open for bulls)

Got home yesterday after 35 overs in New Zealand's innings and was pleasantly surprised at the progress made. 195 after 40 overs, I remember saying that we have to get 280. Hmmm.

McCullum from what I've seen was fantastic and again making me think about my posts that he should be in the middle order.

I don't actually think the bowling was that bad. Martin apart from one over was good, Mills got slaughtered by Gilchrist but came back well. Gillespie average and Vettori not quite at his best either - though does Michael Clarke play him as good as anyone?

Gilchrist was brilliant, Ponting played a near chanceless century (I think one pull shot that fell over the head of Mills was his only streaky shot) and that was that.

Definitely agree, I haven't seen Vettori play a decent innings towards the end of an innings for a while now, yet Mills' power and ability to clear the ropes is evident.
I really can't see much merit in playing Sinclair and batting him at 7 either tbh. I think we need to drop Vincent and make Skippy open
