The point I've been making all along is that a joke is not a racist comment. It's only a racist comment if it's genuinely meant.
Concurred, and Bennett's comment wasn't meant IMO. However, given the possibility of misinterpretation, was still a bit of a silly thing to do.

A joke by definition is something told with the intention of being amusing, and relatively rarely do they have any genuine V&A, sentiment, etc. behind them.

I can tell very easily that there was none in Bennett's case here. To attempt to portray it that there was is, well, ignorance, nothing more.

Oh and Richard continue your crusade. It wont change the fact that your friend said something that was inappropriate and offensive in nature and he was rightly given a ban, The fact is the post was reported and I didn't report it, The fact is he was banned before I even read what was said

You are making mattes worse for your friend by showing off your continous immaturity and egotistical manners on an internet forum. Before your crusade most members were sure that it was a lame joke but now, thanks to you, it (The question that Is Steds racist ?) is up for discussion on this forum. You truely know how to make a mountain out of a mole.

Go ahead put up that statement of Sean Benette in new thread and ask what people think of him and hist so called joke, that is the only thing left for you to do for your friend.
Think it's time for you to shush now.

So what next, a racist comment is not racist unless it is meant to be, That's a very dangerous line to toe.

Anyone that says that Joke can not be a racist comment, basically lives in a highlly delusional world and should try stepping outdside into the world of reality.

You're not the dark side of Richard are you?

You have remarkably similar posting styles. Only difference is Rich posts more.

The fact is that the post was reported - people did take it the wrong way. It is irrelevent how it was intended, what matters is how it came across.
Sorry has to disagree with it..with 100 different people in a forum you cannot garuntee..how some thing came across...it always has to be judged up on what was the intention..and as long as it seems to be ok..it should be handled that way....

No, I didn't put it to justify anything but just to point that jokes can be considered racist and offend people. Sikh Jokes are poor stereotypes that are prevalent in the subcontinent society and lot of sikhs do get offended by those jokes.

Whether or not UP police made a charge sheet or the fact I am not current on Indian politics is really irrelevant here.

But Majority of them dont, becuse they know the difference between a joke and serious allegation.

and ya when u put up a link ..it is to prove a point rite..in that case the real reason was not sadly the SMS content being offensive rather than the politics that goes around in india

On that note, in fact, there is one blatantly racist poster on the forum as of this post, and there's been a few down the years (usually, though not always, dealt with fairly promptly, and occasionally - remarkably - the odd one who's changed their ways). TBH, it disappoints me that nothing of this ilk has been done about this one case in particular, despite action being - rightly - taken against Bennett.

Think i've found them

And what don't you get about it? It's a seige mentality we have. Helps keep us purebloods, you know.

There's little point in posting things like what you have above, either. Just ignore it.
Ignoring it doesn't convey your disdain for it, though - being told not to engage in flame-wars is fair enough, being told not to laugh-off stupid attacks is not.

Laughing off "stupid attacks" has often been the catalyst for an eventual flame war, though. You laugh it off once, the "attacker" resents such, gets more personal or baits more heavily, and you're in deeper than you'd have been in the first place.
