Sehwag doesn't deserve to be any where near the test side. He has to do some spectacular things to try and earn a spot now that he has lost it. I am glad that we are not looking at Sehwag right now.
Can't see Dinesh Karthik much better, to be honest.

I wonder if they'll play Tait and Hogg, leaving out Johnson.

If Hogg plays, they get the left arm variety with their spinner, rather than their quicks.

Don't think they will for Melbourne or Sydney, but I'd certatinly like to see Tait in action in a Test at Perth.
I think thats a real possibility if Tait has a good CH series, Johnson was superb in the ODI's in India but to be completely fair his form has been passable at best since returning from that trip. Whereas Tait appears to be in sizzling form atm and he offers a bit of an X-factor on flat wickets...

I think sadly Tait is going to be one of those guys whose always a game or two away from another injury (like Damien Fleming), I reckon they should just have a policy of when he's fit and bowling well...pick him...whoever you have to drop to fit him in.

As much as i like Tait and rate him i think he is still behind Johnson in the pecking order, Johnson was pretty steady on dead tracks against the Sri Lankans so there is no way he should be dropped and Tait would have to improve on his fitness if wishes to play for a professional team like Australia and its something that he also realises and is working on.

So, the options are:

Pick a spinner, who's overwhelmingly likely to get collared on a flat MCG pitch

or

Pick a seamer, who's possibly likely to get collared on a flat MCG pitch, but might just produce something special (eg, Tait).

I just cannot believe anyone is seriously advocating the former. Sure, Australia have never succeeded when going in with 4 seamers, but how often have they succeeded going in with a crap spinner?
They did here

Well, yeah, but Clark can bowl off-cutters and leg-cutters on a good length. If you can do that, there's little else you need.

Look, I see the point that you could argue that Hogg > Tait or Johnson. But I honestly don't see him doing more damage than either of the two seamers, under almost any could-reasonably-be-expected circumstances.
Well obviously its not a battle between Lee or Clark and Hogg - its a battle between the fourth best seemer and Hogg or McGain. What Hogg brings to the table is something more different (horrible phrasing, but too sleepy to phrase it better) to the other three bowlers than a fourth bowler of the same style. There's a chance that if the pitch and conditions aren't offering anything for the quicks, there will be something for the spinner. So its a bit of a gamble, but one a reasonable one IMO.

But I don't expect you to concede that there's any merit in any of that. ;)

But how is that Ironic?

Only if she discovered the next day that she could have in fact used a spoon would that be ironic:dry:

There really is a genuine chance of McGain playing, isn't there?

When was the last time someone in Australia shot from obscurity to riches so quickly? John Watkins?
