Can't see how, he's only played two one day matches for Qld this year and not batted. And Hopes has been back bowling for at least a couple of matches.
FC batting form, scored like 500 runs @ 90. The squad looks a batsmen short, so my guess is that he got picked as bowling all rounder infront of Hopes.

Yeah... unlucky to Hopes then. I would have thought Hopes instead of Clark would have looked better.

It's a bit weird to rest Hayden and yet play him today too.

Good to see Clarke get a chance to lead the side, but its hard to understand why Haydos has been rested because he is easily Australia's best international T20 batsman to date.
Australia has again made a mistake by neglecting Hogg in the T20 version of the game as their attack was bit too one paced in the T20 world championship.
Btw who will open for the Aussies in the T20 game with Haydos not in the squad.

Symonds opens a fair bit in Twenty20, scored a hundred in England in the first season as opener I think. Clake and Hodge the other options.

Why aren't Ponting and Hayden playing in the T20?

Ponting has only played 45 days of cricket this year!

It's just silly to say that he needs a rest.

He doesn't need a rest after the cricket he's played thus far, we need to look at resting him a bit now so he doesn't tire himself out for the future. Which is fair enough. He has a bloody enormous job ahead of him. He has to captain Australia in many different countries, conditions, formats and against different teams in the next 18 months. I think he'll be right resting in a couple of T20s...

Chappell-Hadlee Squad (IMO)

*Ricky Ponting, +Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds, Brad Haddin, Ashley Noffke, Brad Hogg, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Shaun Tait.

Voges and Hodge also a chance instead of Haddin. The rest pick themselves though. Hilfenhaus the only other who could possibly get a run although I doubt it.

Noffke seems to be getting a lot of wraps on this forum. Having never seen him play and not followed Australian domestic cricket more than the odd passing glance, what will he bring to the table?
