This is an attempt to come up with a fantasy side with a twist - the fattest Aussie XI from the past 20 years. To qualify the players had to have played a test for Australia between 1987 and 2007 and be of generous physical proportions. So here goes:
1. MarkTaylor - they didn't call him "Tubby" for nothing. A top opener, great captain and expert slips fielder.
2. David Boon - the Keg On Legs shares the openers duties and would hold down the silly mid on position. Would also lead the victory song in the dressing room after a win.
3. Darren Lehmann - "Boof" brings some starch to the middle order and some girth to the covers. You don't want him chasing down a possible four to the square leg boundary though.
4. Alan Border (c) - Possibly the fittest man in this team and a deserving captain.
5. Greg Ritchie - the heaviest man is the team? Quite possibly.
6. Tim Zoehrer - not many keepers to choose from but Timmy wins a deserved cap in this XI.
7. Shaun Young - played only one test, a handy all rounder with a healthy appetite.
8. Shane Warne - passed through many weight levels through his career with the mid 90's probably the peak. Loves nothing more than a pizza and a six pack (and a nokia).
9. Merv Hughes - big, angry and burly. Can be relied on for a prolonged spell in the toughest conditions without shedding a kilo.
10. Stuart MacGill - the 2007 version is a walk up start for this XI.
11. Carl Rackeman - not too many overweight quicks going around and probably a little unfair to call the big Queenslander "fat". But there it is.
What do you think? Have I left anyone out?
