Stunning Crampton steals victory
Cricket Web XI v PCA Masters XI - Twenty20

Scorecard

Wicketkeeper Alex Crampton collected three sixes off the final three balls by Rikki Clarke, as Cricket Web XI accomplished the unlikely and chased down 193 to beat the PCA Masters XI. The touring side went into the last over needing 23 runs. And after Sean Fuller late cut for a boundary, he surrendered the strike to Crampton with a single.

Taking strike against Clarke with 18 still needed, the Cricket Web Blue batsman stepped down the track and slogged the medium pacer over midwicket for six. He followed up with a similar stroke over long-on, then capped his performance with a magnificent lofted cover drive for a third consecutive six.

Andrew Cloete earlier battered Martin Bicknell for five boundaries and scored 64 from 32 balls. Rob Dauth later contributed a quickfire 45, continually driving on the up in a risky charge. The Masters XI bowlers struggled initially after limiting the Webheads to 69-3, but fought back well through the surprisingly controlled pace of Steve Harmison.

From the final 4 overs of the innings, the requirement stood at a challenging 52. Down to 30 from 2, Azhar Mahmood thrived under pressure and supplied only 7 runs from the 19th over. Strauss then turned to Clarke, who earlier took the new ball and removed Chaulk for a duck, but the allrounder proved too predictable in the moment.

The Masters XI were off to an explosive start after Strauss chose to bat. The captain and Nathan Astle put on 39 in 3.4 overs, then Kev Gough removed Strauss for 31. Astle continued to bat aggressively, and posted 43 from 28 balls. The middle order fell away somewhat, but Nick Knight kept a cool head with 34 not out, allowing Chris Schofield to clatter four sixes in his five ball stay. Gough's final over cost 27 runs and the Masters XI scored a total of 61 runs from the final 4 overs.

Both sides provided ample entertainment worthy of an exhibition match after a very hard-fought start to the English summer.

Butler and Pickup show the way
1st ODI - Cricket Web XI vs England

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Neil Pickup grabbed three top order wickets, allowing his team to beat England fairly convincingly by 22 runs at Lord's. Cricket Web XI continued their dominance over England in this series, as the hosts stumbled in the chase of 278 after choosing to field first.

The England bowlers struggled to make use of friendly conditions. The start was promising, however, and moist conditions encouraged the seamers early on. It was a loosely executed pull shot that accounted for Ash Chaulk, the opener clattering a short ball to Stuart Broad at mid-on. Andrew Cloete and James Stedman proceeded to struggle against the seamers, who grew in confidence.

The first boundary came only in the 9th over, and Stedman followed up that initiative with a cracking shot over midwicket for six. The innings surged forward through that shift of confidence, though Cloete was stunningly caught for 29. Chris Butler played the crucial hand in the middle order, playing an up-tempo and counter-attacking knock in the middle overs. His was 69 from 56 balls, featuring 10 boundaries despite the slow, wet outfield.

Stedman (49) was caught in the deep off Anderson, allowing Rob Dauth to play himself in with a busy 45. The wickets clattered toward the end of the innings, but again Alex Crampton showed his worth with a fine hand of 46 in structuring 277 all out. Broad finished with 4 for 48 through determined bowling and variation.

Like their counterparts, England got off to a sluggish and careful start. By the end of the 16th over, England had not lost a wicket but had only 64 runs on the board. The proverbial something gave when Alastair Cook slashed at Camps and was smartly held at cover point by Clapham. Ian Bell announced himself with a hook shot that sailed for six and England looked determined to elevate their challenge.

That shift in approach became their undoing, however, as debutant Taylor (34) charged past a straight delivery from Pickup to be stumped. Pickup had an lbw shout turned down against Pietersen first ball, then the England talisman flicked a delivery through midwicket for four. He and Bell conspired the take 18 off the following over from Camps and the contest looked truly alive. Pietersen had gotten to 6 and then poorly skied a slog sweep to the deep. Clapham ran around and held a comfortable catch.

The pace of the innings slowed again until Bell lashed out in frustration and edged Pickup to slip. The required run rate was wel over 6, so Paul Collingwood attempted to accelerate with consecutive boundaries off Tom Halsey. But there was no consistency in attack and no further boundaries for another 7 overs, when Collingwood met Pickup with the same fate. The medium pace of Chris Butler dislodged Shah for 21, then Gough returned to bowl Collingwood (43) with a full length delivery.

England required 99 runs from the final 77 deliveries, and with only Matt Prior among the recognized batsmen, it seemed a comfortable finale for the Cricket Web XI. England finally got on top of Butler with 14 runs from the 47th over, but the game was all but won at the dismissal of Broad to start the 48th. Ryan Sidebottom gathered two boundaries off the final over from Gough, but Cricket Web XI were clear by 22 runs.

Cricket Web XI 277 (47.4 overs)
CR Butler 69 (56), JE Stedman 49 (55), AJ Crampton 46 (56), RJ Dauth 45 (43)
SCJ Broad 4-48 (9), JM Anderson 3-38 (8.4)

England 255-8 (50 overs)
MJ Prior 43 (39), PD Collingwood 43 (54), CR Taylor 34 (46)
NS Pickup 3-45 (10), KJ Gough 2-40 (10)

Cricket Web XI won by 22 runs.

Pretty good tour so far. Awesome test series win for CWXI. Hopefully it flows on to the ODI's and we improve on that 22 run win in the next game!

Taylor stuns CW XI in England win
2nd ODI - Cricket Web XI vs England - Edgbaston

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Kingsley Clapham swung across the line at Graeme Swann and scooped a towering catch to Chris Taylor at mid-on, and the young man clutched onto a well-judged catch. It was the fitting end to a stunning reversal - victory for England by 89 runs - as Taylor had earlier smacked 10 fours in a maiden international hundred. His 123 was the foundation of a huge total of 301-5, which proved worthy of a comfortable win.

England chose to bat first and benefited from some shockingly loose bowling by Kev Gough early on. The fast bowler counted sprayed his fourth ball wide and it raced away to the boundary, then dropped short and was thumped for another four by Alastair Cook (17). Taylor eased away with a couple of boundaries off Clapham, and England got ot 31-1 at the fall of Cook to end the fourth over. Clapham's breakthrough inspired a more measured and controlled personal performance, and he followed up with the wicket of Bell (5) cheaply. However, Gough continued to stray, bowling a noball full toss to Taylor, who obliged in hammering another boundary. Gough gave up 33 runs from his first five wicketless overs, and finished with his worst figures in international cricket to date, 10-0-72-0.

Camps jr. joined Clapham in restoring some control to the innings, bowling well with Clapham and limiting Pietersen and Taylor early on. The arrival of spin relieved much of the pressure though. Neither Pickup nor Halsey showed significant potency, nor did they succeed at stemming the flow of runs. Pietersen was missed by Stedman in the covers - a chance off Halsey - but he learned from the errors of his ways and smashed 42 from his next 29 balls on his way to a brilliant 89. Pickup finally broke through to have Pietersen stumped, but it was his only success of a day that yielded figures of 1-66. Again Clapham was the pick of the bowlers, returning strongly to take wickets at the tail-end of the innings. Though some fine ball-striking by Owais Shah and Matt Prior pushed the score past 300.

The immense task could hardly have received a worse introduction when Cricket Web XI scored only 17 from the first 8 overs. And when the batsmen tried to accelerate, they perished to strokes of frustration. Again Chris Butler looked at greatest ease, though his promising innings was cut short by Sidebottom, who bowled the left-hander for 48. Andrew Cloete was out an over later and any serious challenge by CW XI was effectively ended. The task was too great for Rob Dauth and Alex Crampton, though the latter played two lovely cover drives before he was out for 16. And by the time Camps came to the crease, more than 9 runs were required per over.

Dauth (17) lofted Swann to Anderson on the long-on boundary, then Camps (34) played the same shot two overs after for six. But it was not enough, as the offspinner had the last laugh in finding the top edge of a paddle sweep. CW XI were bowled out for 212, and Sidebottom and Swann finished with 3 wickets apiece.

England 301-5 (50 overs)
CR Taylor 123 (151), KP Pietersen 89 (88), OA Shah 31* (25)
KR Clapham 3-45 (10)

Cricket Web XI 212 (43.4 overs)
