Na dont see it happening.......but with a subcontinet side in SA,Eng or NZ it could happen..say 1st inngs goes for 300 second team score 150 ..the second inngs they score another 350..so we could get a 500+ score to chase if 2-3 guys have their day any team could do that..but dont see this happening in Australia or sub continent...Australia dont see this happening with the team set up it will always be a low score to win..in subcontinet if its a turner then u r nevr going to score above 500 in fourth innigs

Team that most often gets 500 hundred ahead is Australia - so it'll probably be someone playing against them on a perfect wicket like the WACA has been in the last couple of years

India are capable if Dravid blunts the attack by spending hours at the crease

I voted West Indies.

Gayle, Sarwan, Morton, Chanderpaul all making big runs, with support from Ganga..

basically the criteria is a weak bowling attack and a strong batting lineup.

India meet that criteria easily, i cant see NZ doing it because they dont have any batsmen. SA have too many good bowlers....

If it happens it will happen in Asia on a wikcket that does not break up.

So I vote India as they have wickets from time to time this many happen on plus the batting line to make it happen.
Unlikely if a wicket hasnt broken up and the other team has batted well enough to set a target of over 500 in the first place chances are that the test will end up in a draw because it is highly unlikely that on a flat pitch both the teams would have failed in the first innings.

thatz true...i cant see pak doing it...their (fully fit) bowling is good...and batting without inzy sucks

I think it would be India or South Africa as others have said. Australia don't get set a target of 500+ often, so it wouldn't be them...obviously they have the best batting lineup, and if their bowling suffered, I would pick them. It could be against virtually anyone though, it depends a lot on the wicket.

Say India were to give Australia's bowling a roasting, I wonder how many people would pick them for said category in 2 months' time.

I really hope that when it does happen, that its a really special occasion because right now every team barring Pakistan and New Zealand look capable of doing it, and it really would cheapen it if it became commonplace after a while.

Do think it will probably happen though.

india really a logical choice here.. they have strong bating and not that strong bowling.. so if a team manages to put a big target like that because of thier bowling... sachin, dravid, Ganguly, laxman, jaffar, dhoni and even anil Kumble will bat to get that target...

that bating line up is pretty strong considering their recent performance..

If a team are to chase 500 in the 4th innings then that has to be freak match because for something like that to happen the pitch has to be really flat, the bowling has to be very average and the batting has to be extraordinary.
India or Sri Lanka seem to have the best chance of doing something like and that too in the sub-continent and as far as Australia are concerned i don't think they are gonna find themselves in a position where they have to get 500 too often.

Rain the first 2 and a half days. Both teams declare on 0. First team bats and makes 500 dec, second side beats it could be the go.

tbh thought Sri Lanka could in the recent test... luckily as an Aussie supporter Lankas batting only relies on a few players..
the pitch was flat.. the bowling was good, but you sensed they were tired and we had 3 bowlers with MacGill* and Symo injured..and Sangakkara was brill
