I can see somebody like India doing it or maybe South Africa if the whole team fire and Amla can cash in and show he isn't New Zealand Test bowling attack-basher. I will go for India tbh. I won't go for Australia as it is unlikely they would be set such a target, but it could happen tbh with the flat wickets and Australia's bowling attack goes through injuries and struggles with Warne and McGrath and a team could cash in against them and set a big total.

I can't see Australia chasing 500 even if they were somehow set it. India is probably the best chance.

New Zealand against Australia in New Zealand. Happens in the ODIs constantly, only a matter of time before it happens in tests, especially if Vincent goes on another Aussie bashing hundred or double hundred. (I never have understood why Vincent is so damn good against them but average against everybody else)

Please tell me that was just an extremely optimistic post and not a serious one.

Same with Daniel Vettori.

Knowing him I'd reckon it was just jested optimism. :p

Either way, don't see it happening any time soon TBH, and given that I don't know who will and won't have the required batting in 5 years' time, I can't really guess TBH.

Sri Lanka or India IMO. Most likely to concede the 500 and to chase it altogether IMO.

It will happen, but it wont be New Zealand (lol). SA or India will be the ones to do it. Not sure how many times Aus will be set 500 in the near future - don't think it will happen but wouldn't rule it out either.

Wouldn't surprise me if NZ did it, though it would never happen against a team with a half decent bowling line up.

NZ vs WI
NZ vs Bang

We chase 500

Impossible? Not IMO, just so so very unlikely. But we can dream damn it.

Think India, Sri Lanka and South Africa all have capable personnel if luck were to go their way.

If it happens it will happen in Asia on a wikcket that does not break up.

So I vote India as they have wickets from time to time this many happen on plus the batting line to make it happen.

Could be any team really...I mean West Indies of all sides hold the record at the moment. Don't think Australia will however, as how often do they actually chase anything substantial.

in india in flat pitch batting pitch they might face that target considering that laxman and dravid can both play good against Aus..

Pretty much. Just had to get in my outrageous statement in first before some smartass said Bangladesh.:p

Really if there is enough time left in the match, say two days, then as long as the pitch isn't being a **** and is in good condition then its quite possible a team could do it TBH. Especially if they had a nice long tail to bat with and the top three get off to a good start. At least three blokes would need hundreds but thats happened in tests before so it can be done. Just needs alot of self belief and aforementioned optimism that they can pull it off. No one though 400 was chaseable in ODIs.
