I dont know about world beating, most of them average in the 20's , buts its long, and thats where our strength lies.

when Fulton comes back though it will have to change, If McCullum can continue having some success opening and secure that position it saves a lot of selection headaches, an extra middle order batsman and one les opener we have to worry about.

I remember Ryder used to open for central in one dayers, and for wellington for a short time, but then he dropped down the order. I also remember reading an article in which Ryder said he wanted to open the batting for NZ but that was a long time ago, maybe things have changed. Im not sure, but if hes an option to open i think Bangladesh and England provide a great opportunity to get him into the side, and I cant see any other player being a better long term option to open in odis

McCullum
Ryder
Taylor
Vincent
Fulton
Styris
Oram
Vettori
Franklin
Mills
Bond

I think that team is better imo. Ryders more talented than How, more of a long term option along with Taylor. And Fulton would displace Sinclair. Im a big fan of Lou and I hope he stays in the team but Im always looking for a chance for him to go down the order. He just doesnt seem that suited to opening, and I hope he just has a position where he can bat normally, rather than premeditating stuff all the time.
Is Ryder really in contention for the top side, especially given How's recent form? He hasn't been performing particularly well in domestic cricket from what I've noticed (though admittedly its been all first class matches).

I don't think the selectors would drop Ross Taylor, even though his form has been patchy since...well, a while. Fulton I think deserves a place in the side, which is why I suggested him as a potential opening option, though would like to see Sinclair given an extended run (and hes hardly done anything wrong since joining the side in South Africa now).

Why has everyone suddenly dropped Fleming ?

Can I ask what is so good about Morkel?

I had not seen the guy bowl, but some of the comments on CW led me to believe that he had something going for him - but from what I have seen of him in the ODI's he has been ordinary at best. What gives?

Out with the old (Kemp) and in with the new. Kemp > Morkel imo

It's his brother that has all the wraps. The Morkel that has been playing in ODIs lately is more of a bits and pieces allrounder than a bowler. His brother is the real talent and is the one who has been talked up around here.

People were probably referring to Morne Mørkel, not Albie.

Ablie's a decent cricketer though, easily a better bowler than Kempie and for mine a better and more versatile batsman. His only problem is that like Justin he takes some time to get in and can't just come in and slog like South Africa want and expect him to do.

Graeme Smith is apparently suffering with a virus and is a doubt for tomorrow’s game. South Africa don’t have a vice-captain in one day cricket so who captain’s the side in Smith’s absence is unclear. Boucher would be the obvious choice but he isn’t flavour of the month currently. South Africa also have the dilemma of not having a replacement batsman in their squad and with the current domestic cricket occurring in the former Republics and Natalia, it would be a bit of journey for Smith’s replacement to make.

Pakistan can "potentially" win matches as some percieve them (righty) to have extremely talented individual players (Afridi, Butt, Shoaib, Asif), they are however an inconsistent team in terms of results, there's a big difference between "potentially" winning matches and having the consistency to actually do it.

A world beating batting line up IMO is one that has the ability to do it consistently and while NZ may not be at that point, the lineup I named is closer than several other teams in the world, WI are a prime example of a team with a 'world-beating' batting line up.

It isn't like I said it was the best lineup in the world, more along the lines of on our day our team could out bat the opposition.
