What's the matter with Watson's batting?

When Watson and Bond are injured they get the same treatment by complete tossers who would probably struggle to spell "injury."

And Bond is not a "rare" class player, we have many of those, usually injured. He's an all time NZ great and all time ODI great IMO. So he's more than just a class player.
You callin me a tosser Flem? :( ;)

Seems to be one of those batsmen more worried about being technically correct than scoring runs. Bats like those little plastic figurines in the old Test Match board game and seems to only have one gear. I guess I'm saying he doesn't appear to have a very adaptable technique which could change depending on the circumstances.

Mind you, it seems to be mental rather than technical. I've seen him on a few occasions bat just hitting through the line, high front-arm, etc. when the situation is crying out for some innovative slogs such as in the last few overs of a ODI. Strikes me as one of those guys who all you'd have to do is cut off his scoring options and he won't adapt quickly enough to avoid getting out trying to slog himself out of a hole. His bowling is the same; has great pace but doesn't look threatening because he bowls similarly almost every ball.

That said, the above only makes him a very similar type of player to Jacques Kallis and I forsee similar selfishness accusations being thrown at him in the future. I guess he just needs to find his niche and some self-belief. Certainly has all the right raw materials to be a gun all-rounder or a top-6 Test batsman who bowls occasionally.
Gun post.

You Australians are spoilt. Guy's averaging almost as much as Hussey and more than Symonds in FC. He should try to do a Nash and make it over here. Wouldn't have to put up with some of the idiotic statements like on here. Geez.

Watson back in form with a brilliant knock of 15. He at least avoided being dismissed by Tait.

For whatever reason, he's easily the most polarising figure in Australian cricket. I can't help but love the guy myself, he's the only cricketer I genuinely want to do well irrespective of any other interests in the result or quality of cricket or whatever.

Anyway, it's three innings. If he was half as bad as the morons in this thread make out he wouldn't average close to 50 in FC cricket. Agree entirely with the points made by Clapo earlier.

If Watson earned his position in the side and wasn't given a charmed ride then he would be a respected player. The stuff about ghosts, his antics when a team gets on top of him and the relentless run of injuries makes him even more of a target. Should he earn his position in the future it will be a different story.

I hope Watson does well, but I hope if Watson is ever picked for Australia again it is because he deserves to be there and isn't being given any charity.

Why did Maher move away from opener?

3 Ducks in a row, its the new ball.

He's not suited to the opener position, He can bat a bit further down the order but the new ball is beyond him.

Rogers is ahead of him on the score of opening position and his little foray into opening for Queensland probably means a couple of others are too. He should concede and go back to focusing on the allrounders spot.

Would he have a chance of making the team as a specialist batsman? If he stoped bowling he might actualy not get injured. Or alternatively slow down his pace like Oram did.
