What's the matter with Watson's batting?

Watson is not even loved when he plays well. I can't work it out but for some reason nobody likes him. It could just be his face because when I look at him I cringe. I sure hope Watson does not visit this forum and read this. Next time he plays I will try my hardest to enjoy his cricket with no bias.

I hope he does visit this forum...then maybe he will get the message.

Nah, the pro-Watson faction of this forum is quite strong, actually. We've just all grown tired of constantly having to defend him to the likes of you, Fiery and bond21. We're over it.

So, if you are truly "over it", why such a spirited defence of such a non-entity as Watson?

So this thread has 44,now 45, non-sensical,no-defencible posts about a Cricketer no body cares to or wants to defend.I find that curious.

Haha pfffffft, non entity 8-)

Obviously someone didn't take notice if how well Watson was playing in ODI's during 06/07, or noticed that he in fact has a very good first class record with both the bat & ball.

Where's the spirited defence? Some people maintain the fight like Clapo but most don't bother anymore.
I can't be bothered normally because people post such ridiculous things against him it annoys me for the rest of the day when I get into an argument about him.

This promising cricketer has now had 3 ducks in a row opening. What's up with Watto?
He's had a string of injuries, is rusty, out of form and is probably batting in the wrong spot.

Apart from that, all's well.

Haha, is he "that" Matt? Dire, I lol'd at the thought of Gillespie playing as an allrounder tbh.
Gillespie has a Test double hundred and has scored a century at both County and Shield levels. He is a better all-round prospect then the myth called Watson. And I'm not saying he should be there. We don't need an all-rounder. I'm listing better all-round options then quacker. We have Symonds at No.6 and that's good enough.

The most striking similarity between NZ and Aussie is we both have certain players that are loved when they win, and hated when it goes wrong. The two players it happens with most are Bond and Watson. When Bond is on form the typical rugby watching, fair weather cricket supporter, sports fan harp on about how he's the greatest thing ever (and they have a fair point) but when he's injured the fat, middle aged, pie eating beer guzzling ****s spew out statements in between the regurgitated pie like "Argh, drop the bastard, he's useless, he's soft, harden up ya wimp, back in my day we played on with broken backs and were permanently paralyzed the next day..." blah, blah, blah. The same treatment gets dished out by Aussies to Watson. These people need to realize that not playing on with shattered knees and spines and what not is not being a wimp, its using their intelligence. Something your average crap disher on Watson and Bond distinctly lack in, providng they had any in the first place.
Difference between Bond and Watson is that Bond when fit is an outstanding Cricketer and a genuine match-winner. Bond is one of the rare class players the Kiwis have. It's a shame that he never got to play consistently. I would compare Bond to Bruce Reid not the myth.

As Ive said before, he is a good cricketer but a sub-standard Australian Test cricketer. I have higher expectations of Australian cricketers than Watson.

He isnt a good enough bat to hold a top 6 place on ability and he certainly isnt a top 4 bowler. So every time he plays, the batting and the bowling is weakened as there could be a better batsman playing and he is taking overs away from a better bowler.

Im sure NZ and Eng would take him but he isnt Aus class.

Im sure everytime a guy like Watson or Symonds is selected the oppostion are happy. Not that they are poor cricketers but that they are a notch below what has been the standard in the recent past.

Shane Watson, the next Ronnie Irani

No, I'm not Joking. He's had to put up with Jerks that have jumped all over his back for the stupidest, and most pathetic reasons for his entire career to date, so he would thoroughly deserve it to get back at all the bastards. The man can't do a thing right according to some, he gets criticised for being soft, yet Jason Gillespie, who was almost as Injury prone as watto early in his career, is/was treated as some sort of hardman hero. FFS he even gets criticised for showing emotion on a cricket field, like ZOMG, that's never happened before, and he's the only person that does so.

If he was so pathetic as a cricketer, and so soft, he wouldn't have made 200 odd in that Pura Cup final against the Vics, where he was batting injured for a fair proportion of the innings. But I suppose it's only cool to hate Watto, so the right thing to do is ignore things that don't conform to the patheticness that is Watson hatred.
Gillespie proved himself as an outstanding performer from day one and every time he performed until he lost his way.

Watson has brought it on himself with his antics the day Jayasuria embarrassed him at the SCG, his carry ons when he gets a wicket and the whole ghosts thing. He hasn't earned his position like the other players have.

Symonds is only finally now getting a fair go at Test level and Jaques had to serve a decent apprenticeship. Not to mention that it took Hussey ages to make the side. MacGill has only ever been used a stop gap despite being the 3rd fastest bowler to 200 wickets.

Watson has had it too easy in terms of selection in Australian sides. There are better and more durable players out there deserving a go in the Test and ODI sides before Watson.

If he actually earned his position in the side and showed more mental toughness then he would be a hard luck story like Bruce Reid during his career and Jason Gillespie in his early days.

Symonds is a match-winner. His batting is only getting better, he can jag a wicket like Mark Waugh or Doug Walters and his fielding his breath taking. Australia needs an Andrew Symonds or Mark Waugh or Doug Walters in their side no matter who else is around at the time. Match winners are like diamonds. Junior's value to the Test side was much, much more than his batting average, 181 catches or 59 wickets. He could turn a game in one session with a quick cameo innings, a freak catch or a snare a wicket. He was one of Australia's most valuable players during his 128 Test career. Symonds is now displaying that ability. With Ponting, Hussey and Clarke in career peak form Symonds is the perfect No.6.

When Watson and Bond are injured they get the same treatment by complete tossers who would probably struggle to spell "injury."

And Bond is not a "rare" class player, we have many of those, usually injured. He's an all time NZ great and all time ODI great IMO. So he's more than just a class player.
