I would have to DWTA actually Heath. He's a better prospect than any of those guys you mentioned imo
Pah. Papps was thrown in against the worst team for him to have his return to international cricket against. South Africa know his flaws and have a large psychological edge over him from previous encounters. Papps was bound to fail against them despite having worked his way through the technical problem he has against the short ball. The Yarpies were always bound to prise his wicket from him, and it could well have cost him his international career. However, Papps is a technical magician compared to How, whose technique has more holes than a 'boutique' on Karangahape Road.

Which highlights his mental fragility. To say Papps is a technical magician is as funny as some of your posts which are intended to be funny, Heath :p (And that's pretty funny btw ;)

You are selling Papps well short. Maybe he's not a technical magician, but I've watched him build innings at all levels (other than, sadly, international level where I've only seen him in a test in England where I think he broke his finger in the first innings). His weakness is purely mental, I thought he'd got over it, but playing the South Africans when they're the ones who originally exploited his weakness was the worst thing for him. Probably would have been better if he'd faked an injury and taken the runs he'd inevitably score against Bangladesh when How scored no runs against South Africa. Its a funny thing, fate.

Oh - and thanks.

I would rather not have mentally weak players in the side myself

Don't get me wrong, Ideally we'd have Mark Richardson opening - he should still be playing now if you ask me. Pillock. However, Papps is still a better player technically than How, and we haven't exactly seen mental strength or application from How. ODIs are not Tests and he would have been worked over by the Saffers. In fact, I reckon Mortaza will have a field day with him.

I know one swallow doesn't make a summer but I thought How applied himself very well in the last game. He was a bit slow but it was a reasonably competent and gutsy knock and bodes well for his future I think

You are right mate. His innings was good. He played some classy drives and pulls. They were treat to watch. He was very watchful in the ODI. He was responsible for taking NZ to post competitive total on that wicket

Didn't Cairns retire due to constant injury?

Anyway, its not all bad. We have some gun players coming through which we'll see in aroundfour to six years time. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait.

And Peter Fulton, Mathew Sinclair, Scott Styris, Jocob Oram, Ross Taylor and of course, Stephen Fleming are all gun batsmen.

Taylor needs County Cricket though.

Well he was dropped by Bracewell and had probably had enough. If it wasn't for Bracewell I think he would have continued on long enough to have played in the last WC anyway

Yeah but Sinclair, Oram, Styris and Fleming probably wont be around in "four to six years". I'm glad you've got a sunny outlook on the future but I'm a bit more dubious about how we'll get on if the standard of domestic cricket doesn't improve markedly in the next couple of years

What perplexes me more is we dropped our best ODI allrounder after Cairns, Chris Harris. He would have had an amazing WC on those pitches, just look at how Styris bowled. Same goes for the 20/20.

Oram maybe and Sinclair could manage another four if we drop Braces. We will suffer short term but we get some good players in the future.

Yes, Bracewell's an A-grade moron. That's becoming more obviously every day and I'm aghast Justin Vaughan didn't make it his first job to swing the axe on the back of his neck tbh
