CW Battrick Cup

Smart and Lake will go after them. After those two, my spinners'll try to restrict without luck. So it's now or never really. Don't care how many runs we go for.

It's frustrating that I can manage to get 5 wickets against a good Div IV side and struggle to get that many against an average Div V side in my league games. I'm getting smashed all over the place right now though.

Schutte 9-0-45-6

Should be a good chase. Darby looks like his got potential.

Off to work, should win by 9 wickets.

Greene is gun.

 At Schutte 5/14 in 10 balls.
Usually takes 5/0 in 5 balls since I started bowling him at the end.

Code:
End of Over 4: 29-1, runrate=7.25, reqrunrate=5.74 (292-10)
Suttonwood 2-0-12-1
Delgado* 15 (12 balls)
Tailor 14 (11 balls)

Last Wicket: Carter-harris b. Suttonwood 0 (FOW: 10/1)
Lost an early wicket :(

Hindle 44 (46)
Burnip 38 (52)
Hamlin 28 (56)
Sicelo 4/10 (7)
Wikus 3/38 (10)
Hartburn 2/20 (5)

lost to

Four Pillars and Poor Fillers - 142/1 off 19.3 overs
Hiller 71* (57)
Hocking 69* (57)

Outclassed in every way. Thought we created a few opportunites in the middle, but our fielding let us down. The middle-order were poor, but an 81-run opening stand was applaudable. Congrats to Hiller, Hocking and the rest, best of luck in the rest of the tournament.

Pre Match News: Jaffna Jets v Whenuapai CC

Just under an hour left to start if the match between Jets and WCC. News from the Jets' dressing rooms is that they will be going in with a full strength side with Jeithoon, Muralitharan, Willetts, Sishayi, Quintin and Clayton all recovering to full fitness after being rested in their Friday League Match.

Still no news yet on the WCC starting XI. It is expected however that they will be going in with a full strength batting line up, with all their batsmen at reasonable fitness. The real question will be the make up of the bowling attack with Vermaak, Graham and Sweeney all strugging with slight injuries. There is talk that WCC club legend Derek Henshaw could be recalled into the starting XI for this CW Cup Tie.

The key battle to watch out for will be between NZ ODI squad memeber Jason Duggan and young Jets seamer Prassana Jeithoon. WCC go into this match with winning the only other encounter between these two sides, three seasons ago. Both sides have changed a lot since then, so we should be in for interesting match.

Nibbs went full strength in the end. Next 13 overs is going to make or break this match. If Jeithoon can't get through either Duggan or Morrison it is going to be a long day.

Haha Thamba lost to Gelman by 5 runs

Code:
End of Over 28: 127-4, runrate=4.54
Sishayi 4-0-18-1
Lennon* 1 (4 balls)
Hamshaw 41 (63 balls)

Last Wicket: Morrison c. Clayton b. Sishayi 50 (FOW: 122/4)
Massive wicket, especially when you consider Sishayi hasn't taken a wicket all season. Need to keep plugging away though.

EDIT: Lennon just gone, down to Hamshaw and resps

28.2 W Muralitharan to Lennon
What an ugly end for Lennon, he's wafted at one outside the offstump and paid the penalty.

EDIT: Murali what a gun, Hamshaw gone

Code:
End of Over 29: 132-6, runrate=4.55
Muralitharan 8-0-33-2
Willetts* 3 (2 balls)
Vermaak 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Hamshaw lbw b. Muralitharan 42 (FOW: 132/6)

Over the moon with the bowling performance. The spinners were brillant with Murali getting 4 and Sishayi 3 (including Morrison who was his 100th wicket for the club). Jeithoon started it all with 2 wickets, including Duggan.

Mind you I think there is going to be another chapter in this match to come. Don't reckon this chase is going to be that easy. If my spinners can do that to them, I wonder what Vermaak and Lee might do to us.

RTDAS
Absolute thriller, Elmes made 123 off 114 before we collapsed at the hands of Schutte who took 6-45 and cleaned up to leave us all out for 292 in th 49th over after being 1-150 at the 30th. Their chase came so close but ultimately they fell by 5 runs, all out for 287. Old heads Finch and Suttonwood both bowled well and took three wickets each and Duncan is a concern, going for 0-80. Anyways, very exciting stuff.

Graham 5-1-18-0
Clayton* 23 (31 balls)
Lucas 15 (29 balls)
Seen off the first spells of the seamers. Lee and Vermaak on now (i think). Big 10 overs here, if they are playing sets of five.

EDIT: Crap, one down.

10.5 W Lee to Lucas
Oh, that's terrific keeping! Taken brilliantly down the leg side by Morrison and he whips the bails off in a flash. Lucas looks baffled. It's as if he didn't even know he was out of his crease.

EDIT2: Lee is fighting back for WCC with two wickets in an over. Game just turned on its head

Code:
End of Over 13: 64-3, runrate=4.92, reqrunrate=2.08 (140-10)
Lee 2-0-6-3
Ellis* 1 (1 balls)
Muralitharan 1 (2 balls)

Looks like NIbblet is out of two cups in a week.

Dread to think what this is going to do to JJ's already inflated ego. :p
