I don't think selectors will drop him, I just don't see why he is in the team. He's had OK results, but he's not a match winner. He's not young, or exciting. If Moey has a good game in the CA Cup I'd be getting him in the side ASAP.Would have thought Lambert would be the first to go
Hughes definitely has to come. Who he comes in for is up for debate but we certainly have a few too many bowlers in the team at the moment for mine. If it is believed that Nicholson, Hauritz or Casson are good enough to bat #7 then Lambert shouldn't be in the team at all AFAIC. I know I've supported him before but with a bowler at #7, he shouldn't be in the team as a specialist batsman. If he's going to open that's fine but we have to have an actual batsman at #7 if he does.Phil Hughes brings up his 50 against the Vic 2nd XI. Cowan not doing much at the top recently. Time to give young Hughes a go?
Yeah, good point about the likes of Nicho and Casson. They've done better with the bat than Lambo as of late.Hughes definitely has to come. That's not very hard is itYeah, good point about the likes of Nicho and Casson. They've done better with the bat than Lambo as of late.
He's just had a shoulder operation. Hasn't bowled all year to this point, I'm pretty sure.Any reason McDonald didn't get a bowl in the Victoria-Tasmania game?
Cheers. He's just had a shoulder operation. Hasn't bowled all year to this point, I'm pretty sure.
IMO he is the latter. Many seem to think he's the former though. He has opened a lot in Grade Cricket and has had success there even for NSW as you said, but I've seen a bit of him and firmly believe he'd be much better served at around #5.Is Cowan a natural opener or just a middle order player who has had a bit of success at the top and is now struggling?
Real shame, as he looks a good player when in form.
Only ever played or NSW in the middle order and that was a handful of games cus we had Mail and Jaques opening at the time. His played all his cricket in juniors, grade, 2nd XI, Aus U19s as an opener or No 3.Is Cowan a natural opener or just a middle order player who has had a bit of success at the top and is now struggling?

Ed's always been an opener or number 3. has only batted middle order when playing in teams where he is being tested so to speak...Is Cowan a natural opener or just a middle order player who has had a bit of success at the top and is now struggling?

I've said for a while that Watson should be opening, or at least given a chance, in domestic cricket.I reckon... Watson, a move to NSW to just bat as an opener. You heard it here first!
It is just the same in every country, though. England has three decent openers - whilst every other team really looks to struggle for a solid opening pair.I've said for a while that Watson should be opening, or at least given a chance, in domestic cricket.
He usually comes in at number 3, and whilst there is a difference he is in a good chance to work on turning himself into an opener. he has the technique to open as well.
The reason for this is just simply because of the lack of depth in Australia's opening batsman. Hayden and Jacques are excellent, Rogers likewise, but beyond that there isn't much else at all and even more worrying is the youngsters aren't producing great performances up the top of the order....
Expect Hughes to get a large amount of publicity soon enough. He is indeed the 'next big thing'. I remember Moey getting a fair bit of publicity about a year or so ago. Hughes will be the same.I'm pretty sure Phil Huges was discussed on Inside Cricket last night. Not 100% sure, as it was a pretty boring Inside Cricket and kept changing channels, so not sure if it was a blur of the posts on here or was actually discussed on Inside Cricket.
