I'm off up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire, so I hope I'm not being too presumptuous when I vote for Benaud.
Voting against him because he's become boring (which I would dispute, but anyway) is rather like voting against Bradman in a battle of batsmen because he scored a duck in his last innings. What had gone before had clearly established him as one of the greats, if not the great. If Arlott was the king of the airwaves, Richie was the crown prince of the televisual age.

It's the final that we've all been waiting for. In the Green&Gold corner, we have the doyen of cricket commentary. He's been in the commentary box for so long that even his exploits as a player are overshadowed by his time on the telly. Its RICHIE BENAUD! In the True Blue corner, we have the die hard Yorkshireman. He's taken his fair share of stick over the year, and was banished from the Commentary box for a few years in the 1990s. He fought against serious illness and he still comes back for me. Its GEOFF BOYCOTT!

Playing Career: Took Australia to the top of the cricket ladder, captaining the team from 1959 and playing in a total of 63 tests prior to retiring in 1964. A useful batsman, but primarily a leg-spin bowler.
Commentating Pedigree: Took a course in becoming a BBC presenter after the Ashes tour of 1956, but finally moved into commentary after retiring from his playing career. Has commentated ever since. In the UK, he commentated for the BBC and then Channel 4 until the coverage was taken by Sky in 2006. He has continued to commentate for Channel Nine in Australia after this time.
Other: * Once worked for The Sun newspaper
* Inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2007
* Appeared in adverts for the Australian Tourist Board, stating various Australian locations to be "Marvellous!"

Playing Career: Obsessively dogged top order English batsman playing over 100 test matches for over 8000 runs in test matches in the 1960s, throughout the 70s and into the early 80s.
Commentating Pedigree: Well known for speaking his mind, he has commentated for virtually every media outfit that takes cricket in the UK - from the BBC to Channel 4 to Sky Sports to TMS and TALKSport.
Other: * Organised the 1982 rebel tour to South Africa
* Convicted in 1998 for hitting Margaret Moore, a former lover.

People must be voting on reputation, not present form, because there's no way the Benaud of today is in the top two commentators in the world. In fact two tv commentators (although maybe Boycott is also radio, don't know, am not English) should not be in the final; radio commentators are always superior given the nature of their medium and the absence of the 'star' factor. I nearly always watch cricket with the sound down and the abc turned on. A very dissapointing final two. Abstain.
