You can throw all the quality, averages etc out of the window

India-Pak is only one thing, Pressure.

Games have been won and lost from imposible positions and every moment is tensed

Just watch the game

Very good post.

Asif's absence is a huge blow for Pakistan but its been a long time since Asif has been having this ongoing problem with his elbow because it seems a bit strange for a fast-bowler to have a chronic elbow problem :sly:

I'm convinced that Asif chucks it a little. Since I cannot see any visible bending in real-time then I believe it is not pushing the 15 degrees limit but I feel there is a violent and slightly horizontal (rather than simple up and down) bending of the arm at delivery which puts the vicious backspin on the ball and gives him the zip off the surface and gives him the elbow problems.

That is a brilliant post but you cannot rule out the class of Tendulkar, the sheer consistancy of Mohammad Yousuf or the destructive qualities of Imran Nazir or Virender Sehwag.

I just hate it when people suggest that so-and-so chucks it TBH. Until someone gets reported and has their action checked in the only way to judge for real, there's too much speculation. Anyone can look like they chuck if you examine closely enough with the faulty human eye.

You get me wrong, I suggest there is some sort of straightening of the arm but not enough to be illegal (hence the rest of the post which you quoted and conviniently missed out) and this causes his elbow problems.

EDIT: I also stated that I could NOT see any visible bending in real time...did you even read the whole post? My justification is the jerk at delivery from his elbow to his arm.

You said "I'm convinced that Asif chucks it a little." If it's not enough to be illegal, it's not a chuck.

Whatever it takes!!!

that depends on the person's definition of "chuck" though...

I mean, for all we know, Manee might be of the opinion that all the bowlers do chuck, except Sarwan. ;)

Please excuse me, my phrasing was poor.

What I mean by 'chuck a little' is a degree which is beyond the regular range of players. I believe that 95% (approx.) of players straighten their arms within a 3 degree range of each other (e.g. 2 to 5 degrees) and I feel that Asif is beyond that. Not calling him a chucker as I feel that a derogatory term saying that someone is cheating and breaking the rules on purpose, but by 'chucking a little', he goes beyond the normal range of players.

TBH, I think it's far better to just say "has more (elbow) flex than some". The minute you use the nasty c-word (no, not that one )* it basically means flexing more than the allowed level.

* to borrow from Brumby again

I'll be sure to use that in future. CW has a few buzzwords and powerful smileys that I am only getting aware of now:

As far as I am aware, doing this: 8-), is the equivalent of setting fire to one's house. I would have never guessed that before.

While we are on the topic of people with more elbow flex than most, Kyle Mills is certainly one of those.
