Tests against them get included in an average, and therefore McCullum's average is in the 30's. Those are the facts.
It's also fact that his average against Test-class teams - those who most people, not just me, realise are Test-class - is 26.

Most people, too, realise that the average against Test-class teams is far, far more relevant than the I$C$C-official-bull**** average.

You can't take someone's average minus Zimbabwe & Bangladesh and then compare it to players who also play against Zimbabwe & Bangladesh.

And that's what we all do. I know Ponting averages 59ish, Fleming 39. Who actually measures averages against decent opposition? No one.

Erm... eh? Pretty well everyone who makes sensible discussion on CW takes Test averages inclusive only of Test-standard sides.

Where was I using any average that did include Bangladesh BTW?

Don't you already have a thread dominated by this discussion without going over the same old intransigent ground here too?

So long as there are people prepared to argue that Bangladesh are Test-class and other related things, unfortunately it will crop-up anywhere where a player's official average is pulled away from its true picture by said sides.

Good to hear Franklin got through a work out without any pain in his knee, though it's still worrying. His injury sounds a lot worse than I thought it was, and considering how long this season is going to be (with eight tests over the next 6 months) its hard to see him making it through without another flare up. Bad news, we'd really miss him, especially in England. Hard to see why he'll be joining the kiwi's for the ODI's if he can barely manage 10 overs in a pre-season domestic warm up match.

Rather than rehash the same argument though, could you not direct them to the thread on this very matter rather than polluting other threads with what are effectively duplicated posts?

Anyway, I am well aware of the hypocrisy of taking the thread on another off topic topic, so I will desist.

Saw on the tvnz website, video section, that Stephen Fleming his dislocated his thumb and will almost certainly miss the final warm-up game. FFS!!

It usually only lasts 3 or 4 posts anyway. :)

I'm not saying Bangladesh are test class, I'm saying they have test status. Fact. McCullums test average is 32.13. Fact.

You're trying to argue your opinion as fact, Richard.

No matter how many of us take away minnow stats from averages, it doesn't make it a fact. Just an opinion. This is where you're failing to grasp the concept.

Now lets have words to go with that Phlegm. Who will replace him?
I think its likely to be Ross Taylor *winces*

I'd prefer Ryder. Yes Ryder. Lets see if he can walk the walk as wel as talk the talk. He's the best we have so why the **** not.

I'd rather Taylor as of right now and Ryder in the foreseeable future IMO.

Yet Taylor was already in the squad remember? As Fulton too is injured.

Papps
Cumming
Taylor
Styris
Vincent?

Is that what we'll be using today?

We better ****en not be.

Yes Taylor is in the squad so it will be him but if I could choose anyone it would be Ryder. Taylor doesn't have the FC record to justify selection in the squad in the first place.

Taylor will be at three I reckon.

Get over it, thats the team which is over there. I can not believe that Ryder can be a justified choice either. Give Taylor a chance, its better than having a Marshall there.

Then watch as he fails spectacularly

He is a middle order man and shouldn't be above number five. If it weren't for injuries he shouldn't be there at all.
I disagree with you here, it's clear that he has the talent to be playing at 3 (and on that wider note in the side itself) but he just doesn't seem to have the concentration at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does very well in this series, nor would I be surprised if he doesn't.

The talents all there but he just needs to learn how to really maximise his natural ability, hopefully international cricket won't intimidate him for much longer.

He's never been a FC number 3 to my knowledge so he would take time to adjust. There a are few things he'll have to do before he should be at three:

1. concentrate more
2. Get in some gametime at 3 in FC cricket
3. Tidy up the technical weaknesses e.g. playing across his pads early, slog sweeping against spinners
4. consistency: This will come with gametime and runs
5. Concentrate more
