Congratulations to South Africa for winning both series & its again Afridi + openers who have cost us this match.
Afridi's role though should not be that of a batsmen but rather a lower order bowling allrounder. Yes, his application in this instance definitely could have been much better, but he can't be the sole person on which to place the blame. I mean how well did "genuine allrounder" Sohail Tanvir bat?

Two innings? And in one series? Definitely agree now.
Well those two innings were better than the zero contributions made by the majority of the Pakistani batsman throughout this series. And even with Khan’s dismissal being probably the most idiotic of them all today, who in your opinion should replace him?

For aside from creating faux postulations by looking at Cricinfo and deciphering if someone can bat or not (case point Sohail Tanvir, his tons must have come against some side from Waziristan…) there isn’t any alternative that I can see.

Considering he was out first ball, not very good. :)
Although, tbf he was probably the only Pakistani batsman all game to receive a good ball. But from what I have seen of him this series he isn't say the next Abdul Razzaq or even Wasim Akram, his first class average is extremely flattering. He just slogs.

It'd be unfair to drop him right now, after his most recent successes. But it's poor form to call him a worthy ODI player on the basis of 2 innings against the same opposition in the same series. Younis Khan has played a lot of ODIs and has been very mediocre for a very long time. When he starts performing with any positive consistency, praise him for it. But until then, he should not be one of the first names on the team sheet. It's not a case of form is temporary and class is permanent with Younis, as he has never been anything but a very average batsman in ODIs.

Surely there are good young batsmen in Pakistan who can average more than 30 in ODI cricket. If not, it's a bad sign for Pakistan cricket. And that's way beyond consideration of Younis Khan's merit.

India should be last chance saloon for Akmal. If he doesn't clean up his wicketkeeping by then then I'd be totally in favor of his removal.
Why wait for Indian series to end up in farce? the chances of Nazir having some success with the bat is greater than the chances of Akmal doing decently with the gloves.

There should be two wk named for test series, and Sarfraz Ahmad (the young WK) should be given preference in the test side. The guy might not be able to score much but will atleast keep well.

Afridi has international experiance (was infact the most experianced OD player in the side) Tanvir was the junior most.As such Afridi was sent up the batting order.Any player that had played as much cricket as Afridi would probably had finished the match in a better manner.

Afridi and Akmal actually gifted the match to SA

"Andre unfortunately only had one line that he was dishing out to Shoaib Malik and the boys so it got a bit monotonous there. We just had a chat to Andre and said to Graeme Smith, 'Well, look he's only traipsing out one line, it's getting a bit boring'."

I think enough is enough Akmal has time and again let the Pakistani team down with his wicket-keeping and there are no signs of his wicket-keeping improving, so its better Pakistan give somebody else a chance, Pakistan being such a talent rich country would surely have a good wicket-keeper in the country.

the problem is that they are trying Akmal as opener.. sometimes he gets a go... that is one of the reason he is in the team.. pakistan wants him up in the order.. they are forgeting as a wicket keeper he is geting worse with time.. it seams to me that he puts more time and effort in his bating but still average of 24 in odi and 30 in test doesn't make his place in the team purely as batsman..

so lets leave him behind and try someone new..

I don't know, maybe we should try him as a specialist opener in ODIs, the way our openers are going. :p
