Who do you think Should Captain Indian Test team?

With everyone around the bat, attack is occasionally the best form of defence.
No, a cross batted shot with all your power is never the best strategy when you only want a draw. You know what would be a good strategy to that ball? Leaving it alone.

Don't think you can call charging down the track the best form of defence tbh.
You just have to see him block to realise it is not always the best tactic for him against the straight ball.

This arguement is pointless though, the innings as a whole was foolish and Dhoni is not a certaintly in the test team so should not be test captain yet - we agree on that.

I am in support of giving it to Tendulkar. I feel that, ignoring his previous stint where he was overcome with pressure, he has all the attributes of a good captain.

-He commands respect
-Has more experience than anyone else currently playing international cricket
-Knows the game
-Intricately understands each bowling form, each batting situation and each fielding position firsthand.
-Is quiet but not withdrawn

I don't think you can both keep wicket and captain. That is one hell of a workload for one player.
Think of it from the other point of view. Standing still for 99% of the time, able to ponder your next move. Catch the ball, throw it to slip and you have time to think again.

Dhoni did the first ball or second ball single with Kumble (#8) who is probably a better defender of the ball than Dhoni, and 3-4 times with Zaheer (which was probably a mistake).

Not with #10 or #11. He failed to get last ball singles, including a boundary, but #10,11 faced only about 7-8 balls (across 10 overs) each.

Note that this sort of play is opposite the natural play for him, but he is a quicker learner than people give him credit for. (< 2 years in the test team).

I dont think he should be test captain either, but think that he is definitely coming along as a test player - certainly where he started from.

Only reason Dhoni's test place is in question is because India has another strong batsman-keeper in Karthik. Couple of other sides are blessed with this kind of abundance (Aus as in anything, SA also in this department), Dhoni or Karthik may individually make almost any other side as test keepers (SL: Sangakarra is just too valuable a batsman and they're always looking for full time keeper).

If player trading was allowed in cricket, this would've been a key exchange for India (for a seamer, esp right arm).

Dhoni? No. He is yet to prove that he is a long-term option as a test-class batsman and keeper. Captaincy and keeping in test cricket is a big ask - hell, Gilchrist might have a tough time with such a responsibility. You don't send a young, inexperienced captain on a home tour against Pakistan and an away tour against Australia to start off his stint. Bad idea - very, very risky.

Kumble? No. Yes, he deserves it. That's about the only thing going for him though. He seems to command respect in the dressing room but he doesn't appear to be as involved as the Sourav or Sachin. On top of that, you'd have the issues that Jono brought up.

Basically, it should go to Sourav or Sachin and it doesn't really matter who gets it because they seem to be best buds and will end up advising each other anyways. Now, given that Sourav doesn't seem to want it that bad, give it to Sachin if he really wants it. Don't complicate matters anymore before two huge tours. Tendulkar is my pick.

Proved he wasn't Test class if anything, was running down the track going for sixes with the rain coming any minute. Was insane.
We had this discussion of late IIRC. Dhoni was just being quite risky, he was just lucky to have not been out in the close of play. He wasn't playing like a responsible player, so i don't think he proved anything in the league of test class worthy in that regard.

Appears I was wrong on this one.

Dhoni and only Dhoni. Tendulkar has shown in the past that he is a poor leader and I dont think much has chnaged since his last stint, If Tendulkar is made captian again, it will be a step backward. Ganguly should not be made captain again.

Completely agree with all of that.

Weren't Indian selectors always saying that they are looking out for the future? If so giving Tendulkar the captaincy not a negative thing?
