As much as I don't rate David Hussey, he is putting the runs on the board which is all that a selector can ask of a player. I'd certainly rather see him in the test team than Voges.
Certainly Voges' Test-call up seemed a lot random last year. For the ODI team is one thing, but Tests? As much as I don't rate David Hussey, he is putting the runs on the board which is all that a selector can ask of a player. I'd certainly rather see him in the test team than Voges.
I guess the bowling stocks would be the main point of interest I guess, especially with the spinners. Even some of the pace bowling options need to be looked at. I would say only Lee and Clark are the two certainties to play in Brisbane for the bowlers. When would the Test squad be announced? Late next week I assume?Ridiculous batting depth in Australia. Absolutely ridiculous.
The thing is though, all 3 of the batsmen i mentioned, are all (imo) actually better batsmen than Hussey. I won't deny that he has been in good form, because he has been, but the thing with David Hussey is, he's very prone to shocking patches of form, something that Katich & Hodge (apart from right now that is) haven't been during the course of their careers. Watson, on the otherhand, will be selected ahead of Hussey if he's proven that he's fit, and in reasonable form with the bat, for the simple fact that he provides a genuine 5th option with the ball.Katich wasn't even in the Aus A team which travelled to Pakistan which was a 2nd Best XI. Watson is still injured and Hodge's ordinary form would just about ended his international career. Where as Dave played in Pakistan and was the 2nd best performed batsmen behind Jaques, racking up 300 runs at an average of 100 backing up a great county season. He has then continued his great Pura cup form from last season this one so far. In that Aus A series he was also the 2nd best performed in the one day arena.
Just for the sake of it? Yeah why not. After all, there aren't any better batsman to fill the Australian middle order.I think David Hussey is a gun player and he has been ignored by the selectors for way too long now, he has the experience and quality to do well in every form of the game and its about time he makes his international debut.
cant just toss in an international debut when one feels like it. he may deserve it, but who r u gonna drop??? btw, this is my first post here.Just for the sake of it? Yeah why not. After all, there aren't any better batsman to fill the Australian middle order.
You seem to have missed my sarcasm matecant just toss in an international debut when one feels like it. he may deserve it, but who r u gonna drop??? btw, this is my first post here.
The team is announced on Wednesday. Although it's alarmist to read too much into this weekend, I do think it's provided somewhat of a window into the post-Warne, McGrath era. Guys like Lee and MacGill (our leading quick and spinner respectively) do have the potential to go for plenty of runs off not too many overs, while we really haven't got anything like an established 3rd paceman. While we won't suddenly stop taking wickets, we will bleed many more runs, much more quickly, than what we've seen for a long, long time. As spoiled Aussie fans, it will take some getting used to.I guess the bowling stocks would be the main point of interest I guess, especially with the spinners. Even some of the pace bowling options need to be looked at. I would say only Lee and Clark are the two certainties to play in Brisbane for the bowlers. When would the Test squad be announced? agreed, i think that hilfy hasnt really caught the eye of the selectors with any huge performancesI think Hilfenhaus needs either a massive performance or an injury really, they didnt even see fit to play him in the dead game in India so I think he's a little bit down the que atm.
But yes shall be interesting to see Tait....and Gillespie with an eye to if things to badly this summer.

So not only was Hilfenhaus the most effective wicket taking bowler, he was a stock bowler for Tassie for most of the 06/07 season. He's a gun and deserves a shot at the bigtime.Hilfenhaus' 60 wickets at 25.38, the third most in the competition's history, included three five-wicket hauls, but his back-breaking workload must be monitored over the next couple of seasons. Last summer he delivered 509.1 overs in the first-class arena, nearly 200 more than any of his domestic fast-bowling counterparts.
