Bracken's test chances

Lol, melodramatic much?
I'm serious though; it really angers me. There have been at least two occassions where I've thought I'd come on here and decided against it because I wasn't in the mood to read pro-Symonds and/or anti-Watson stuff. The resistance never lasts longer than a day but it's happened. It'd really be better for all concerned if I just didn't comment on that issue anymore or try to debate it.

Discussing cricket on the net (or anywhere for that matter) really shouldn't have that effect on you, imo. Anyways, not really any of my business, apologies.

As mentioned before, this is a great point. People must look at averages in the last 3-5 years rather than overall averages when looking to make any sort of judgment over current ability. Anyone who saw Yuvraj's ODI average would think he were average, it is only upon further analysis that you see that he has averaged 45 in the last 3-4 years.
Why shoudn't it? Symonds took how many years to become equal to Watson as a batsman - to which I'd still say he isn't, and is inferior at least in tests. Watson also being 6 years younger? So if we know players grow, why not pick Watson, again, instead?

Watson will get picked again, but not now..

When was the last time the lad picked up a cricket bat!

He's isn't going to make the First Test side (as has already been said) so let him play a few days of cricket first and see if he handle a few overs of tough cricket for the Bulls without getting an injury before he can even be considered for a test spot.

Smartest suggestion I've read today. I just meant to imply that when the time comes and if Symonds has established himself to an extent in Tests (averaging 40, let's say) let's not fear dropping him.

Watson should not be picked for Australia again until he can prove he can get through a full domestic season. His injuries over the last few seasons should mean that is the case given Australia's tough schedule over the next year. At the moment Hopes should be selected ahead of Watson in the ODIs until Watson can prove he's returned to full fitness and with Symonds and others pushing their test claims then Watson should also have to wait to get into the test side until he has done that.

It's a shame Hopes can't manage an eight-match tour without pulling a hamstring, and having to go off half-way through a match leaving the team a bowler down.

TBH, I've had several times when I've had the exact same situation Robert describes (ie - thinking "let's check the forum", then having a "oh, hang on, there's going to be all the crap about such-and-such" thought and deciding against it). Does it mean we're taking cricket discussion a bit too seriously (I'd disagree it has anything to do with the medium)? Probably, yes, and I for one feel a bit silly when I actually think about it, as there are more important things in life than cricket and we all know it. But it's endemic in who I am, really, and it's fruitless to think it's going to change really.

As Wrighty said that this thread is meant to discuss Bracken's test prospects but now it has shaped up into Symmo vs Watto
Inevitable for the past year. Pointless trying to stop it. Certain issues will crop-up in just about any thread with a semblence of relation.

Haha yeah, remembering it now, cheers. At the time I was so hyped I probably said it was close, but memory has it being pretty plumbish. Difference between you and me of course being that I take the good with the bad and believe it pretty much evens out. Top century, loved it.
It was a fine innings after the let-off, beyond question. I can't, though, as you said, get past the fact that had the correct decision been made, the outcome of that innings would have been 56 (or 58) and no more.

Perm - stop acting like a tit when you argue, you're better than that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and when it isn't even that one-way, there's no need to shoot him down so hard.
There's no need for comments like that. You should be above directing comments like that to other members.
Its always funny when people argue the person not the issue. Perm comes off looking like a tool in those exchanges TBH.
Just like to say sorry for this, was pretty immature of me and I hope Laurrz accepts this apology.

Back to the Bracken and his test chances...

How do you rate Nathan Brackens chances of making the NSW 4 day side?

If NSW only picked 4 bowlers I would say he's got little chance but if they go for 5 bowlers with 4 of them being quick he does have a chance.

Lee, Clark and MacGill will all play if fit. Which leaves 2 spots at the most for Bollinger, Nicholson, Cameron, Casson and Nicholson.

Bollinger bowled very well in the 2nd innings claiming a hat trick, Nicholson scored a 100 so his ability to bat a bit could see him picked over Bracks, and Cameron was MotM last match taking 5-33 in the 1st innings. So yeah what are Bracken's state chances?

Haha, you're joking? Bracken's FC record is superior to any of them.

Reckon they'll go with Lee, Bracken, Clark, MacGill and Nicholson.

EDIT: FC Average

Cameron - 14 @ 25.42
Bracken - 181 @ 26.71
Clark - 294 @ 26.95
Lee - 392 @ 27.66
Nicholson - 380 @ 29.03
MacGill - 743 @ 29.96
Bollinger - 96 @ 37.51
Casson - 79 @ 42.78
