It's the comments about immigrants, Britain becoming "a warehouse for refugees" and claiming that he had been sacked because Greg Dyke was a Labour man. I found him arrogant and selfish. More right-wing bias that came out in his commentary than racism, perhaps. He was a great bowler though, I'd never dispute that!
Ironic, really, given he was the grandson of an immigrant himself. His maternal grandmother was Jewish. Which, as "Jewishness" is passed matrilineally, technically made old Fred a four-by-two as well.

Yeah as I was telling someone last night, even though you'd think these type of people would be more understanding of people in similar situations to them, it's quite often not the case unfortunately.

Trevor Bailey vs Michael Slater vs Geoff Boycott

Trevor Bailey

Playing Career: Stalwart all-rounder for Essex, playing 61 tests for England scoring over 2000 runs and over 100 wickets.
Commentating Pedigree: Went into commentary after retiring from first class cricket in 1967, continuing to play for Westcliff-on-Sea for several more years whilst
Other: * Known as 'The Barnacle' due to his dour, gritty batting displays.
* Also known as the 'Boil' in Australia due to his name supposed being pronounced Boiley in the Australian dialect.



Michael Slater

Playing Career: Swashbucking top-order batsman for Australia, scoring over 5000 test runs in 74 matches before being 'forced' into early retirement.
Commentating Pedigree: Started commentary in the UK in 2005 for Channel 4, being mainly used as an anchorman and interviewer before making a swift and smooth transition directly into the commentary box. Now also commentates for Channel 9 in Aus too.
Other: * Has starred in several other Aussie TV programmes such as Dead Set Legends and The Cage



Geoffrey Boycott

Playing Career: Obsessively dogged top order English batsman playing over 100 test matches for over 8000 runs in test matches in the 1960s, throughout the 70s and into the early 80s.
Commentating Pedigree: Well known for speaking his mind, he has commentated for virtually every media outfit that takes cricket in the UK - from the BBC to Channel 4 to Sky Sports to TMS and TALKSport.
Other: * Organised the 1982 rebel tour to South Africa
* Convicted in 1998 for hitting Margaret Moore, a former lover.
