You are right. I had forgotten the composition of the last Australian team to play odi's in India.SJS, we're talking ODIs here right?
Well the last time Australia toured India playing ODIs (not including the Champions Trophy) Australia actually didn't have Warne, McGrath, Gillespie or Kasprowicz. They were all injured I believe. Lee too.
Australia smashed the crap out of India in that series (tri-series with NZ). Their bowling line-up was something like Williams, Bracken, Bichel and Hogg (if my memory serves me correctly). India only won one match against Australia during that tour.
I think in a 6 match series (discarding the first) on Indian soil, this current Australian team is a 4-2 better team, and its a fair reflection of the gulf between the two teams in terms of talent (yes I understand it was a dead rubber, but if you're telling me Australia didn't want to win that game tonight, then you're wrong IMO. Look at their reactions when a) they fought back and ripped apart India's top order, and b) when India started to crawl back into the match).
You ahve to remember India hadn't beaten Australia in a ODI since 2004 until this tour. Now they've won two, and came extremely close on Sunday in what I believe was a good effort.
Are there still plenty of flaws in the Indian ODI team? Yes, for some reason they've never been able to fix them, and maybe they won't. But I think they're a better team now then they have been for many years, barring possible the first half of 2004 when Laxman, Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid were all peaking.
Haha exactly. I'm all for opposition crowds chanting "Aussies suck". Give some back, as long as it's not racist or violent.Good stuff. Poor form from a select few (the usual suspects) Aussie fans in here. Embarrassing stuff from some of those fans in Mumbai, though I don't understand the big deal about the supposed "Aussies suck" chant. Cricinfo has been harping about it but that's the most harmless chant ever. Don't get it.
Yeah the people i was watching that match with...... half of them fell a sleep and only woke up once Yuvraj and Kaif were doing really well. Than were all upset when Yuvraj went out and i told them... just watch don't bloody whinge already.True, as far as I'm concerned they're in the same boat as the footy fans who leave at 3/4 time when their footy team is losing.
Sport is a weird thing, anything can happen at any stage.
Anyone remember those fans that left during the India vs. England Nat West Series final after Tendulkar got out? India were 5/150 chasing 310-320, and even with Yuvraj and Kaif at the crease (fair enough they were noobs then) they walked out.
Sucks to be them, just like it sucks to be the ones that left tonight. Missed a pretty cool match.
A 7-0 series loss to Australia is less embarassing than being bundled out of the WC Group stages, so it'd have been better anyway.
Our batting should have been much better than it was but let's not forget that Lee and Johnson both bowled quite well throughout the series. Once again, let me reiterate that our batting was a disappointment but the Aussies bowled very well - Hogg was terrific as well. On that note, Hogg should get a chance in the test side unless MacGill has been lighting the domestic scene on fire lately. Don't know anything about his FC record but I'd give him a shot. You are right. I had forgotten the composition of the last Australian team to play odi's in India.
I still felt we would have a measure of this Aussie bowling. I am not so much disappointed by the 4-2 result but by the lack of significant and consistent batting by any Indian star barring Sachin. Batting at Kochi, Vadodara and yesterday was very disappointing. The fact that I include yesterday's match means that I am not talking results.
I know you dont mean it but it does sound from the above that our batting is expected to fail against good bowling and thats not something to worry about. We can and should expect nothing but good bowling at this level. Any other attitude and we might agree that we are not good enough. Our batting should have been much better than it was but let's not forget that Lee and Johnson both bowled quite well throughout the series. Once again, let me reiterate that our batting was a disappointment but the Aussies bowled very well - Hogg was terrific as well.
Since when has Macgill become an ODI bowler that people are saying that Australia were without thier main spinner aka SCG Macgill ?On that note, Hogg should get a chance in the test side unless MacGill has been lighting the domestic scene on fire lately. Don't know anything about his FC record but I'd give him a shot.
And that is exactly Indian fans are doing..they are delighted that they won a hard fought match from nowhere and that is the main reason why some of us are so delighted. No one is claiming that after that win India has become the best team or Australia has become more beatable etc.if I was an Indian fan although India did very well to fight their way back there.
No I was talking about the England series and SJS being disappointed here and I'm saying he shouldn't be because Australia are really, really good. And that is exactly Indian fans are doing..they are delighted that they won a hard fought match from nowhere and that is the main reason why some of us are so delighted. No one is claiming that after that win India has become the best team or Australia has become more beatable etc.
Maybe I expect too much out of an Indian sideAustralia are the best side in the world though and we've just come off a flawless WC win without breaking a sweat. I don't think there is really that much to look into here for India, SJS. I'd be more worried the England series loss than this if I was an Indian fan although India did very well to fight their way back there.
Not a chance really. Doesn't really have the tools for Test Match Cricket. Probably shouldn't support him for a Test-birth if you don't know about his FC record. On that note, Hogg should get a chance in the test side unless MacGill has been lighting the domestic scene on fire lately. Don't know anything about his FC record but I'd give him a shot.
and that's true as far as the standard of the current indian side goes...so what's wrong with that?Maybe I expect too much out of an Indian side
But if we accept your thinking that this was a good show by India we are indirectly setting the standard (ranking them in relation to Australia) for this Indian side. Which is not too close to the Aussies.
Where'd you get that from? Don't think anyone is saying that.Since when has Macgill become an ODI bowler that people are saying that Australia were without thier main spinner aka SCG Macgill ?
His first class record is poor. He's not even the first choice spinner at his state for first class matches anymore and he sometimes gets left out of the first class team altogether. When he does get picked, it is usually as an allrounder batting at #7.Our batting should have been much better than it was but let's not forget that Lee and Johnson both bowled quite well throughout the series. Once again, let me reiterate that our batting was a disappointment but the Aussies bowled very well - Hogg was terrific as well.
