The Battle of the Commentators

Here is a quick trivia question for you, "What do you think Arthur?" who is asking and who is he talking too?
That was banter between Arthur Gilligan and Vic Richardson wasn't it? Usually followed, IIRC, by a "What do you think, Vic?"

Meh, even *I* know bits and pieces. ;)

Pretty sure my dad had told me about those two and their commentary actually.
This Meh is still confusing me:huh:

Don't be modest, I read where you should tell people how good you are all the time, if you want to get ahead:)

Rich described the "meh" best - it's like the written/verbal equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders.

When you're as good as I am, you really don't need to waste breath telling people. It's pretty blindingly obvious... ;)

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Can't honestly recall Laker making much of an impression on me as a kid. I do like Bannister a lot tho, has an earthy, black country accent that lends his words an ex-pro's weight of opinion. Gower's an admirable host and a good conduit for teasing out the opinions of others, but rarely seems to commentate on games nowadays.

On balance: for Bannister.

As a semi-related aside, who was the bald chap who hosted the BBC's test coverage before Tony Lewis took over? Can't recall his name for the life of me.
Peter West.

For: Laker, I used to enjoy his stuff when I was young. Never pulled any punches. remember him slating a Gatting shot for being "one of the most disgraceful I've seen played by a Test batsmen". Could be quite amusing too in a dry way. I remember in highlights him using the slow-motion to talk through a Phil Edmond's defensive shot, saying how wonderful it all looked in detail, then just saying "shame he missed the ball and was bowled".
