Found 'Masters of Cricket' by Jack Fingleton, looks pretty good from a quick flip through.
Yes I enjoyed it, and can recommend it:) If you have a chance get hold of a copy of 'Batting From Memory", a little long but a great read:)

D'you reckon that I'd be committing a heinous crime if I scanned it in here? It's very short.
Not sure but the mods will remove it, if they think it needs removing:)

I was wondering that today, funnily enough. I've just picked up 'Fatty Batter' - read about 50 pages already - and would be happy to write the review if no-one else gets there first. But what's the deal on quoting from a book? Are we in breach of copyright or anything?
It is fine to quote from a book when doing a review, it is allowed by law:)

Any one read Calypso Cricket? It was a book about the 1991 WI Tour
Archie, promise I won't raise the subject of Calypso Cricket again, but I really like this quote by Australian author and playwright Alexander Buzo in his book Legends of the Baggy Green: Dubious Behaviour and Achievements from Cricket:

"Despite it's misleading and cornball title (calypso music and calypso cricket died out in the 1960's), the book is both hilarious and indispensable, and is the kind of thing Woody Allen could have written if he had the talent......Why was Calypso Cricket rubbished thus? Well a couple of paragraphs in its 297 page length dealt with un-named married players picking up girls in a bar and this was a violation of the Mates Act.

A genuine innocent with a gift for screwing up, Fishy once missed - not dropped, missed - a simple catch in the annual Authors v Publishers cricket match. it was the last ball and the batsman - one of whom specialised in remainders and pulping - ran two to win the match for the Publishers by one run."
I read Calypso Cricket by Roland Fishman. Its about the 1991 tour to the WI
What did you think? It was quite controversial when it came out, I quite enjoyed it from memory:)
I vote this book as the worst cricket book I have ever read. Unfortunately I got rid of my copy only to be given another one. However, Archie and I obviously (but rarely) disagree about this. I seem to remember that it caused quite a stir at the time.
Here a few quotes, there are plenty more try about page 32 from memory

Waiting til its on the remainder table tbh - $30 seems a bit steep for the collected thoughts of Jason Gillespie.

Although he's gone a couple of months early with it, you'd think. Better to wait until cricket is being played HERE, and Xmas is closer.

When I saw it yesterday it was $33 IIRC... Paused, looked at it, and decided to wait (maybe get it second hand in a couple of months)

EDIT: Oh right, got it now... slow on the uptake.
 Was hoping you'd get there eventually.
