Since no one is asking a question here..I will ask. It should not be tough. As you Kumble became a captain at the age of 37, which is pretty late for someone who has been around so long and done so well for his country. But even at 37 he is not the oldest captain to lead India.

Any Guesses on who it is ?

I think Vinoo Mankad and Lala Amarnath were both 41 but who was slightly older I don't know (yes I could look up their birthdays but I don't want to.)

The oldest Indian captain (at the time of leading the country in his first test as captain) was Hemu Adhikari who was in his 40th year when he led India in his only test as captain against the West Indies in February 1959 at Feroze Shah Kotla. It was also his last test match in a 21 test career.

The question just says who is the oldest to captain India, it doesn't say the oldest to captain for the first time...........SANZ where are you?

Question
An Englishman is at the top of the list of this occurrence (for most) . What is this occurrence ? :) Clue It has to do with a long career :)
In case you were wondering the answer to this SJS , it was Frank Wolley - the occurrence being 'having played under most Captains in a career ' . You were pretty close, before I went away...apologies..

Surprsingly Wilfred Rhodes who has the record for the longest Career in Test cricket played under fewer Captains than Frank Wolley.

Apologies for the confusion and also for the late reply. Weekeends, you know. :)

Anyways, just to clarify, I meat the oldest captain to lead India for the first time and hence SJS has the right answer. :)

Okay here is a new one and I hope people will stay around long enough for this to be answered within this year

Who said this and why ?

I've always thought selectors were a bunch of idiots. All they've done now is to confirm it.
