Think this applies once again:Kallis is a douche therefore he should be disqualified from any "greatest of all time" discussions. End of.
One of the worst moments in the Stedders archives, tbh.
Why? The First Ashes Test was just that - a first Test of a series. It was 0-0. This wasn't - it was the last - South Africa were 1-0 up. They'd have been mad to try and win at the expense of increasing the risk of losing. Absolutely insane. Had they been 1-0 down, or 0-0, or had it been the First Test, any of the aforementioned, I don't for a second doubt they'd have made more effort to score quickly.I gladly will. Given the situation, both batsmen should've batted faster. Worst comes to worse, they get out, and there are plenty of other batsmen to back them up down the order. Striking at 44 in the second innings when you're trying to push home an advantage is just not good enough.
Look how quickly Ponting and Langer scored in the second innings of the First Ashes test. That's how it's gotta be done.
Well that and the fact that truly great batsmen should at least have a Strike Rate > 50.....(Kallis is 43.1....Lara is 60, Ponting 59 and Gilchrist is a whopping 82)Kallis is a douche therefore he should be disqualified from any "greatest of all time" discussions. End of.
That seems to be a serious, not ironic, comment, in which case I can only say:Well that and the fact that truly great batsmen should at least have a Strike Rate > 50
Okay, maybe a bit over the top but I truly hate watching batsmen who score as slow as Kallis and Dravid.......I would prefer to watch a David Gower or Kim Hughes type anydayThat seems to be a serious, not ironic, comment, in which case I can only say:

And Imran Khan is better than any other allrounder in history anywayKeith Miller is better then both anyway
Gary"I could bowl every style crapily"Sobers is one of the greatest batsmen ever but he was hardly an allrounderw.t.f. happened last night??
I don't remember creating this thread...
Anyway, I'll weigh in and say there is Sobers, daylight, then a group comprising of Imran, Kallis, and Botham, for the greatest allrounder of all time.
For batting, I'd say Kallis is fairly close to the top 20 test batsmen of all time.
I don't think hes in the same class as Sobers as a batsman, but those bowling stats are very impressive in comparison, and I don't think they can be ignored considering the general quality of pitches nowadays. I'd say Kallis's bowling is quite underrated, more so than his batting anyway.Have another couple of drinks and then review his allrounder status
Sobers: 93 Tests, 8032 runs @ 57.78 --- 235 wkts @ 34.03, SR 91.9
Kallis: 109 Tests, 8851 runs @ 57.10 --- 216 wkts @ 31.64, SR 67.2
TBH, elegance, not pace of scoring is what I enjoy in a batsman. Gower wasn't the quickest scorer in The World, but surely most would prefer to watch him to, say, a Gilchrist.Okay, maybe a bit over the top but I truly hate watching batsmen who score as slow as Kallis and Dravid.......I would prefer to watch a David Gower or Kim Hughes type anyday![]()
Umm... well... Kallis has pretty much never stopped scoring the last 6 years - as haven't the Dravids, Pontings and Haydens.Hes clearly among the top five of this decade in his batting though. An extremely consistent runmaker, but he suffers because he hasn't had any particularly stellar runs of form. Hasn't set himself above the rest of the pack the way Ponting has done in recent years either.

I'm afraid you're wrong there, but we won't take this thread off topic.Gary"I could bowl every style crapily"Sobers is one of the greatest batsmen ever but he was hardly an allrounder.
Probably best we avoid getting into any more arguments at the mo, hey?
