Andrew Symonds is at fault himself

SirBloody Idiot

Cricketer Of The Year
If he hadn't opened his big mouth in the first place, he wouldn't have been targeted.
The fact that the taunts were directed towards him and not any of the other players is pretty much testament to that......
As I said, he didn't exactly help his own case with some ill advised comments.
You are an absolute boofhead.

So if I make racially denigrating comments at you now Salamuddin, because I think you're talking crap in this thread, do you deserve it?

Where did I say that Symonds deserved it ????
All I've said is that Symonds fuelled the fires and it was an inappropriate thing for him to do.
His comments lacked any kind of humility of grace whatsoever and yet he was the one who accused the Indians of being less than humble.
Can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me that was a sensible thing for Symonds, as an ambassador for Australian cricket to say at the start of a series in a country where crowds are extremely passionate and occasionally volatile ????????

You said he brought it on himself. If you had made it clear in the first place, you wouldn't be in this hole.

I'd be prepared to bet the reason the Australians said what they did was because they were sick of being asked about it by the media etc. It may have needed to be put in perspective.

There's no evidence to suggest the people involved said what they said because of this anyway. It's possible they may not like him for other reasons.

I think the point mate is there was nothing in what Roy said that would justify racial abuse. In fact it is hard to imagine what he could have said that would warrant it:)

By saying he brought it upon himself is basically saying he deserved it (even if you don't condone racism).

No its not what I said......All I said is the reasons why I think he was targeted by the crowd. I certainly think his comments pre-series and his subsequent stoushes with several Indian players haven't exactly made a popular figure.

You only have to read the title of the thread to realise you did say he brought it on himself. I.e. "is at fault himself."

You are putting him at fault here. He is not at fault in any way, shape or form. By saying he shouldn't have 'opened his big mouth' and should have shown more 'common sense and decorum' is saying he brought it on himself.

I don't now how much more clear it can be.

Oh nothing justifies it absolutely but racism exists in every country, in every sport and quite frankly I am a bit skeptical of administrators who make grandiose statements that they will wipe it out...because it has happened for far too long.
The point I'm making is that as a sportsman surely your best bet is to knuckle down and get the job down without making provocative statements and therefore potentially making you an even bigger target for the riff-raff that attends these sporting contests.

It's a case of avoiding trouble when you can....and Symonds didn't avoid it. He made sure that when it came it would find him.

Prevention is better than cure IMO.

Dire. So a black person can't make any controversial comments without provoking racial abuse. Pathetic attempt to turn an instance of an individual being wronged into the bad guy. By that standard, any racial abuse Sreesanth cops this summer will be his own fault because he makes controversial comments
Well said.No excuses for racist behaviour.

And rememeber that this is not the 1st time Indian crowds have made racist comments.Dillon & his wife had to cop a lot during a test at Mumbai. If this continues, those test centres should be banned from international matches.
