It's all crap.
yes for once i actually agree with you,

on another note, one other stupid idea of Fifa's imo is to award the 4th champions leauge spot to the team that wins thw FA Cup, just stupid, the idea of the Champions League in the first place is to bring the most consistant performers from each country together.....not some team who can hash together a decent cup run, i mean....if results in finals in recent years been diffrent we could have had southampton or millwall playing in the champions league, terrible idea of monsiuer platini's, Imo the champions leauge spot should be offered to the teams who finish 1st and 2nd in the league, 3rd and 4th should not get a look in, as after all it is the "champions" league, not the runner up league....

not that i can see the current format changing mind you.

And as for the bolded part, the English league actually does quite well in comparison with other leagues in terms of how many realistic challengers there are (I don't think there are four realistic challengers anyway, but that's another point). The dominant teams slowly change over time, anyway... Blackburn won the Premiership in 1995, were relegated by 1999. Now, I know this won't happen now, but still, there was already a lot of money in football by that point, and it's not that long ago. Tottenham, for instance, were widely predicted by pundits to be breaking into the top four this year... that isn't happening, fairly emphatically
in fairmess this has happened in spain in recent years as well, celta vigo and real sociedad both finished in champions league positions and challenge very strongly for the league title (in sociedad's case) only to find themselves in huge decline and relegated within the next 4 seasons.

Disagreed. The cup winners have actually won a title. Southampton and Millwall haven't actually won - the last non-top-four team to win the FA Cup were Chelsea, back in 2000, and they were fifth. As long as the 4th league placed team would take the spot in case of the cup winner being already qualified (4th league > 2nd cup, obv), then I have no qualms. It might do some damage to ridiculous TV-money-fuelled gaps between the big clubs, too.

Mind, in Germany it appears they're not heeding this and will give the spot to the 4th placed team anyway. (This may be because 1. FC Nürnberg would have qualified this year; regardless, I can't see them doing worse than Werder Bremen...)

Interesting weekend for some of the players called up for England. Robinson really has looked poor in the spurs last two games, the way he defends againts free-kicks and corners is really horrific, he can't be number one anymore. James has to start now until one of Carson or Foster steps up.

On a better note good to see Lamps going a full 90, looking foward to the reunion of Owen/Rooney up front although disappointed for Johnson even though he hadn't scored for Everton up until today he was having a good season IMO. Hopefully Ashton can be fit for looking foward to seeing him play a part.

Would have liked to have seen Middlesbrough in action to scutinize the performances of Woodgate & Young since i am surprised that neither have been called up.

On a club note United in a solid position ATM, hopefully the goals will start coming in now & no more injuries since the loss of Hargreaves & Carrick could be crucial in the coming weeks.

Fletcher starts training tomorrow so hopefully he'll be able to do something until Carrick and Hargreaves are back.

There must have been a reason why it was thought up in the first place eh?
Yes, but that was a very different age with 6 forward players, even after the offside rule was brought in. As I say, it ain't going to happen, so seems pointless me going on about it. I still believe they could enforce that "benefit of the doubt to the attackers" thingy, mind.

Apparently a marginal decision cost Brum today.

In other news, Herenveen beat Heracles Almelo 9-0 in the Eredivisie, Afonso Alves scoring 7.
 Afonso was a star in Sweden before going to Heerenveen.

And that's the 5th 5+-blowout in the Eredivisie this year - a year which, unless PSV make it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, appears to be the worst Dutch year in Europe since 1998.

It's becoming dire.

Is Afonso Alves any good or is the new Eredivisie's Mateja Kezman but better?

Rumour is that Man City will be lineing up to buy Patrick Vieria after so many injuries and are not impressed by this (and if Domenech would stop being a **** and calling up players who clearly are not fit).

Granted Woodgate is a good player....but i'm hardly surprised that neither of them have been called up, Middlesbrough's defence this season has been dreadful.
