Australia U/19 in Pakistan

Yeah I've played with him all my life, I captained him in U16's and back then he was pretty innocuous didnt even stand out in Canberra 3rd grade cricket, nobody would have thought he'd really go anywhere in the game, but he's made huge strides in the last year, I was amazed when he was picked for the Comets and he's done very well particuarly at the institute challenge (although apparently the pitches were very conducive to spin).
Wondering whether he'd be half a chance of unseating one of the incumbents for the U19 WC, if he has a good U19 nationals.

Pakistan won the second ODI by 9 wickets, with almost 40 overs to spare…

Australia 78 (Smith 23, Shahzaib Ahmed 5/21, Junaid Khan 2/18)

Not great results so far - although the main point would be for them to get the experience of touring somewhere like Pakistan. Would be interested to see the results if the same Pakistani U19 team toured here.

To be honest, Pakistan has the advantage of none of them actually being under the age of 19 (much like Hasan Raza made his test debut at fourteen).

It's pretty well known that you can't really trust the birth certificates of some of the Pakistani cricketers that have played recently. Making your debut aged 14? No way.

India and Pakistan regularly defeat Australia at u-19 level.
At that age level, the Indian and Pakistani kids have played a lot more competitive cricket and thus their beating Australia is not really a great surprise.
Also, basic skill levels come into it a lot more at u-19 level than things like fitness, strategy etc. Look at the u-19 WC last year....the Pakistani and Indian guys swung the ball a lot more than the Aussie attack of (Ritchard, Cutting, Henriques) were able to do.


I have always maintained that at grass roots level, Pakistan and India can more than match the pool of raw talent that Australia has.
Where Australia really pulls away is with their first class structure....Australian kids hone their skills in a tough domestic comp and the level and organisation of coaching available to them as they develop their careers as professional cricketers is of greater quality than what subcontinental kids have.
Add to the fact that CA is exteremly well organised whereas subcontinental kids have to cope with the endemic corruption in the likes of the PCB and the BCCI.

Australia's system is far sup[erior to everyone else's - pure and simple and they reap the consequent rewards.

I grew up in Pakistan so I know the way the system works over there....I'm well aware that a lot of Pakistanis have false birth certificates...I don't need a patronizing New Zealander to educate me on that aspect 8-) .....but that does not mean that the cricketers in Pakistan's u-19 team are automatically age cheats.

Pakistan/India being successful at u-19 level can quite feasibly be explained by reasons other than age cheating. Age cheating is the naive way of looking at it.

Don't throw the rolleyes at me, I was merely defending the point that a few of these players could well be over 20. SirBloodyIdiot was probably a bit strong in his language when he said that none of them were under 19, but he does have a point. I'm not saying that is necessarily the case, as you brought up a good point about natural talent being more obvious in India and Pakistan.
