After considering a few different options, the board has decided to finish the 2nd XI season after Round 7 in both forms. There are various reasons why we have made this decision. The main reason is the fact that we don’t enough 2nd XI managers to make it worthwhile to continue it longer that period. After seven each team will have played each other once.
Seven matches should also mean that rookies have played sufficient amount of games to be more consistent next season and allow them to have enough time to push for 1st XI spots.
We haven’t decided yet whether 2nd XI will return next season. I guess it depends on whether there is an increase in managerial numbers by then to make it worthwhile.
For the current active 2nd XI managers I will be personally looking at ways we keep can keep you involved in the game. The 2nd XI Twenty Cup will continue after Round 7, so there will slight extension of the season due to that.
But the main thing will be working with your current 1st XI managers and seeing ways we can keep you involved in the game. Maybe managing one form, say ODs and 1st XI manager manages FC. I guess that will depend on the 1st XI manager. But hopefully they are more then willing to allow you to still have significant involved in the club.
Also for those 2nd XI managers there are still two 1st XI positions open at WA and Warwickshire. As I mentioned before anyone can apply for those positions, regardless of whether you have managed for two weeks or just half a season. It is probably the best option for any 2nd XI manager who really keen to stay involved in the game.
This is not a choice I really wanted to make, but I feel it’s the best option to keep WCC running long term. With more focus on 1st XI managers, we may create more interest around the game. As I feel there still plenty of keen 1st XI managers.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
