haha real crunch tonight against a decent side...tbh i'd be surprised if england win this one, and as most know, i hope they lose, simply because it will spare the routine dissapointment and exit on penalties when the real tournament comes around, i support hiddinks men.

need to have a lot at the standings. But if thats a case then things are pretty serious still.

Disappointed that Hargreaves won't be fit on wednesday. Even though Barry played well in the centre i'm sure i'm not alone in worrying about how he will go againts Russia since England won't be bossing the mid-field so easily. But hopefully Barry can surprise us.

Hopefully before these qualifers are over England can get to play their full-strenght side, damn all these bloody injuries have really been disheartening but on the other hand it has tested our depth.
**** me you underrate Gareth Barry.

I see Gareth Barry in the team and i don't see him as a weak point. He's a part of an effective Aston Villa midfield that doesn't leak too many goals and have recently beaten Chelsea.
Owen Hargreaves hasn't been properly fully fit for months now anyway, why you'd want to force him straight into that situation is a bit of a mystery.

And overrate Hargreaves. ‘Boss the midfield‘, WFT? His not Patrick Viera…
Yo, where did i say Barry ``boss the midfield``, i was refering to the way England had total control in mid-field againts Isreal.

All true, but Barry's role in that effective Villa mid-field of late is as a left-winger not a central mid-fielder as he played againts Isreal and as i said before i have no recollection of Barry ever playing in the centre of the park for Villa is always left-wing or left-back. So againts a better side i fear he could be in trouble. But he looked good in the role so hopefully he can surprise me againts Russia 2moro.

True, but when i was at OT other day againts Tottenham Hargreaves playing in his first game for United pretty much adapted to his role that United bought him for pretty quickly. Once he was fit i would have played him without hesitation.

Barry plays central midfield for Villa, as part of threesome with Petrov and captain mediocre. Ashley Young plays wide left, Bouma left back…

Since this season you mean? Haven't watched any BPL this season. Had to change uni plans at the last minute so didn't renew my service. Trying to before the weekend though.

barry has played in the centre of midfield for several seasons now actually...

I'd have had Cole in the middle ages ago if it wasn't for the fact that we have no-one else on the left. Don't see Cole as a similar player to Lampard at all myself.
if joe cole is to play for england then it should be on either wing, he simply is not good enough to occupy the centre of midfield, for england or chelsea, full stop.

cheked it up and apparantley Barry has been playing in the centre so far this season. Obviously he has started this season, but good stuff by him thought his very solid early season form was from playing on the wing. McClaren was right on the mark after all.

Hopefully he can keep it up for the remainder of the season, since his game will add great versatility to England's mid-field in EURO (once we qualify).

Barry may've been playing in the centre, but he's not a like-for-like for Hargreaves by any stretch. Reo-Coker has been playing as Villa's defensive shield this year.

Barry's distribution is good & his tackling is ok, but he does lack pace. Hope he won't get exposed tonight.

I should also give an RIP to Ian (?) Portefield who died recently. People who know their FA Cup history will know his significance in the FA Cup.

Good stuff this from England.
Aussie had better be a Barry convert now otherwise he's just being deliberately blind.

yea the bloke has been brillaint this half no doubt. But that don't mean he should be starting for England well all are fit, but his place in the squad as a key player now is secured.
