Player's Averages - What will they end with?

Neither can I actually, but he definitely bowled 17 overs in a row because there's a clip that has his spell figures. I was under the impression it was through one session but I'll happily be corrected if I'm wrong.

Don't think it was a whole session he bowled the 17 overs straight, I think he bowled 5-6 before a break (as in end of the day, lunch, tea etc.) can't remember it exactly.
From my memory he bowled the first part of the spell on the evening of the 3rd day, then returned on the morning on the 4th and bowled unchanged like his career depended on it.

What do you guys reckon Michael Clarke will finish with? Given that he averages 36.96 after 20 tests, I'm gonna say he'll end up with something around 44 or 45.

That sounds about right - it was an awesome spell, I can only remember one other similar length spell in recent times from a quick.

I would say Michael Clarke would end up with an average of 50 or 51 considering he still has long career ahead of him and has plenty of talent to go with that.

Haha nice bump. I remember making this thread. Can't believe it was around 20 months ago though. Time flies.

No way, he's not good enough to average over 50. Definitely has the talent, but I'd be surprised if he ever cashed in that much. Can see him being at 47 or so.

Perm, the reason behind me feeling that Clarke would end with an average of 50 or more is due to the lack of good bowling attacks around the world and the fact Clarke still has age on his side.
After every passing year the quality of most bowling attacks around the world is dropping so i have feeling that averages of most good batsman around the world would go up in the years to come.

There are some very good young prospects around that have either emerged onto the international scene or are likely to emerge. Bowlers like Mohammad Asif, Shaun Tait, Lasith Malinga, Piyush Chawla have all demonstrated that they have a lot of talent and ability, not to mention a whole host of other decent young bowlers and the middle aged bowlers such as Hoggard, Collymore, Nel, Ntini who are all still likely to cause most batsman trouble.

Clarke is very talented and has shown that so far in his international career, but I really don't see him as a 50+ average kinda batsman. He has a tendency to hit the ball through the field in the air, which he somewhat rectified during the 2007 Ashes, but still has a tough road ahead.

I didn't see Damien Martyn as such either, but he still managed to average over 50 for much of his career, and not just against weak bowling-attacks.

Both Martyn and Clarke strike me as people who should be decent Test batsmen and nothing more, but whether they will is another matter.
