For the coming season, who should be the third Aussie quick? Not necesarily the same question as who will be...

Let's see how Hilfy goes at the start of the season. If he has a great start to the Pura Cup, I'd choose him over Tait. Safer option, big wicket taker. Will be a star of the future.

It will be Tait, I would like to see Hilfy though - adds more variety to the attack. We haven't had a swing bowler since Fleming.

Would love to see Hilfenhaus in there.

OT, nervous about Tait and Lee both coming back from surgery and a huge season of cricket ahead.

:-O Just realised I didn't include Bracken. Some people won't be happy. :)
Probably only Nath TBH.

Either way, can only see it being Tait, even with the current injury.

Hilfenhaus definately the best prospect tho IMO.

I think Tait's done enough, particularly at the World Cup, to be first in line. Though it will be interesting as everyone has said to watch Hilf's development to being ready to step up when Tait inevitably breaks down.

Also hoping to watch Mitchell Johnson become the bowler I want him to be and Dennis Lillee thought he could be.

I want to see a Lee - Tait opening partnership. That would probably be one of the fastest opening partnerships ever. Obviously, that alone by itself is not enough, but it can be such a huge bonus if they both come off. I mean Dhoni looked almost clueless vs. Flintoff at 91mph. I can't imagine facing 96mph at both ends, especially with the action Tait has.

I think they would complement each other nicely.

I think Flintoff is one of those bowlers who to the batsman seems about 10mph quicker than he actually is, due to the heavy ball he bowls, seems to get quicker off the pitch, can be put down to height/strength I spose.

Lee's not that quick any more though, I'll be surprised if he manages much more than 92-3mph at the quickest next season.

Tait and Lee might well compliment each other - Lee hopefully won't look quite as bad as normal with Tait at the other end. :p

I wouldnt pick any of them. Id go for Gillespie.

Watch him in Pakistan, he's awesome on sub-continent pitches.

English pitches offer his type of bowling nothing but aussie and sub pitches is where he works his magic.

I won't vote since I haven't even seen Hilfenhaus but I agree that having Tait and Lee bowl together would be great entertainment in one way or another. Tait is probably the most exciting young quick today after Asif and Malinga.

Tricky one, the excitement factor suggests Tait, with his pace he is sure to ruffle even the top class batsmen. Safer option is defo Hilfenhaus, who probably deserves his chance, good solid bowler.

I say Tait, he has the pace and reverse swing which England showed can be used effectively (2005 Ashes) against even the best of opposition. His fantastic FC strike rate of 45 is promising too and I believe can be converted somewhat into international level too considering the level of Australian domestic cricket. Like Waqar hunted of Wasim (see: Warne top 50 cricketers thread), Tait can hunt off Lee and with the two of them bowling 150kph, they will strike fears into the hearts of many batsman around the world. I think a Lee/Tait partnership is too good to miss out on in both tests and ODIs.

Johnson for mine. Still not sure how Tait leap-frogged him at the World Cup.
Based on what I have seen (given it has only been ODIs for Johnson), Tait looks the more threatening bowler. There is also talk of Johnson being quick but I have seen him in several matches and never did he hit 90mph, maybe he was returning from injury but he was not quick. Tait also has the better domestic record which just about confirmed my choice for me.

Johnson is more than a handy batsman though and may be eyeing up a bowling all rounder slot?
