Can't believe how dire Glamorgan's County Championship Division 2 stats are for the players in the Glamorgan v Derby game.

One person who averages 30 or over with the bat (Wharf at 32.94) an Aussie import batsman (Jimmy Maher) who averages 13.25 from 12 innings, their bowling apart from Harris averaging 30, 38, 39 and 273.

I had planned to go to the last day of the Surrey - Sussex game tomorrow, little realising that it would actually be the first day. The forecast is pretty good, so as long as the outfield isn't soaked there should be play, but will they play a one-innings game? They don't have to do they, they could just play for bonus points.

Depends on what the captains decide, I would think both teams would be keen to win (particularly with Yorkshire killing Warwickshire) but it's hard to contrive a result in 1 day, I guess you might see something like the teams contrive a chase of 300 in 2 sessions, with the first session involving bowling just short of underarm lobs and then two innings forfeits.

I think the Championship regulations state that if a match begins with less than eight hours playing time remaining, it automatically becomes a one innings a side game (still FC), so there wouldn't actually need to be any forfeitures. It comes down to whether the side batting first is willing to set the other a target. The trouble is that the Oval is normally a batting track so neither would be optimistic of bowling the other out in half a day.

I remember Surrey playing Essex in one of these games a few years ago at Chelmsford, and much to the disgust of the locals Surrey decided to bat the whole day! I don't think points for a draw were on offer then either, so it became, literally, a pointless exercise.

That's so dire, I'd be annoyed if my overseas didn't average over 50 tbh.

This must be his first game for them - that one had passed me by I must say ... presumably it's only till the end of the season. The sort of short-term signing that I get really fed up with (even though all the counties seem to do it now )

hmm how much longer before Ervine could qualify for England. Would be a good addition to the ODI side in the future IMO.

Bopara > Ervine. TBH making runs against county opposition is no real indicator for international success.

Well firstly its not like Ervine looked out of his depth as an international player for Zimbabwe, so if he keeps doing well @ Hampshire in the OD format i don't think he would be far off an England call-up. Plus he & Bopara are different players why compare them?.

Bopara strenght is as a top order player & a useful part-time bowler, similar to Collingwood, but in a full-strenght ODI Bopara may in the future either struggle to start or have to adapt to a new position.

Ervine could be the perfect #8 i think, can hit it a long way, fields brilliantly & can give some very handy overs.

So Kent and Worcestershire finally get to face each other on a cricket field this season. However, having been 51/0, Kent are now mysteriously 11/1 after 1 over. What's going on?

Where are you getting those scores from? Both Cricinfo and the BBC site are sayng that the match has yet to start.

That's what my cricinfo was saying. It's changed again now, Kent are apparently 3/0 off 1 over, which was shared between Malik and Razzaq

Ervine could be the perfect #8 i think, can hit it a long way, fields brilliantly & can give some very handy overs.

Ervine should ideally be playing first class cricket regularly first. I believe the current game against Lancashire is only his third four day game this year, which simply isn't good enough.

His bowling would be a liability and his batting is nothing above county standard that dozens upon dozens of others achieve.

Yorkshire are absolutely STEAMROLLERING Warwickshire. They're 31-7 after getting 129 in their first innings. Yorkshire got nearly 600, so its going to be an extremely hefty defeat by the looks of it.

Good news for Kent and Surrey - that will bring Warwickshire right into the relegation battle, especially as they've played an extra game. Serves them right for trying to poach all the good players!
