Adelaide - Feral fan base
Brisbane - Lol, maybe if we give you more money and more draft picks you'll go back to winning another stack of premierships by basically bashing everyone into oblivion. Bunch of thugs.
Collingwood - Wow, hate them so much. Worst club in the history of any sport. Everything about them is woeful. Fans, players, board etc.
Essendon - Lol, don't get me started here. Essendon fans are the worst of the worst of the worst. Will never forgive them for 93.
Fremantle - Not a real club. Have no place in the AFL.
Geelong - Hate them so much dead set. Should get rid of the whole city itbt. Ashamed they're Victorians. Specialise in losing grand finals, will do the same thing this year and I'll be there laughing. Will never ever forgive Milburn. Should be locked up imo.
Hawthorn - Bunch of pretty boys, had a good decade or so and that's it.
Kangaroos - Shinboner spirit aka being really crap, but trying hard.
Melbourne - Rich members that might make time for games in between ski trips and getting their hair done.
Port Adelaide - Worse than Adelaide and that's saying something. Bring back Fitzroy!
Richmond - Meh. Don't go to Richmond games because I'm scared of getting lynched.
St Kilda - Have no heart. Bunch of women who wasted heaps of talent and draft picks. Smug and with a rotten culture. Have never done anything of importance in over a hundred years. Well just the one thing.
Sydney - Killed football dead set. All that's wrong with the modern game can be found in here.
Bulldogs - We don't care where you ****s get your suits from. Learn to kick straight and find some fans with more than four teeth.
West Coast - First club to take the cup outside the holy land. Basically evil.

and Carlton - dead set, the Bangladesh of football. Incompitent management, idiot footballers that have ruined the game for me. Had a fine history going untill Elliot dragged the whole thing down with him. Should merge with the Bendigo u19s. Joke of an organisation.

Incidentally I’m toying with the idea of starting to follow (in an extremely half arsed way) an AFL team & really want the team who most closely resembles my association football team (Arsenal). So I’m looking for a team who ideally

-Play in red
-Were big in the 1930s
-Were largely turd after until a renaissance in the late 80s under a former player who returned as coach.
-Have a current coach who is perceived as a cerebral outsider
-Have embittered local rivals who’re much crapper than them
-Had a reputation for playing boring, defensive football now superseded by one for playing attractive football but being a soft touch against physical teams
-Came into the top flight in suspicious circumstances (see “embittered local rivals”)
-Have next to no home-produced players
-Are from outside of the original heartland of the sport
-Hover somewhere near the top, but have no actual chance of winning the title

Any team matches 5 of these & I reckon I’m in business!

Lol, Sydney.

-Play in red - Yes
-Were big in the 1930s - Made 4 GFs in a row 33-36
-Were largely turd after until a renaissance in the late 80s under a former player who returned as coach. - Moved from South Melbourne to Sydney in 82, started wearing short shorts.
-Have a current coach who is perceived as a cerebral outsider - Nah.
-Have embittered local rivals who’re much crapper than them - Nah
-Had a reputation for playing boring, defensive football now superseded by one for playing attractive football but being a soft touch against physical teams Boring itbt.
-Came into the top flight in suspicious circumstances (see “embittered local rivals”) Nah.
-Have next to no home-produced players Cbf checking this, I think so.
-Are from outside of the original heartland of the sport - Yes.
-Hover somewhere near the top, but have no actual chance of winning the title This year at least.

Lol, yeah Brumby that'd be Sydney. Particularly your last few points/criteria (although I haven't completely counted them out of the flag race this season yet).

EDIT: Just saw Gelman went through them all. I reckon they sort of were introduced in suspicious circumstances Gelman. I mean moving South Melbourne up to NSW was a controversial move was it not?

Yeah, Sydney is definitely the team for Brumby.

The playing in red and big in the 30s things are spot on. Sydney had a rough introduction after the move in the early 80s, but had a good run in the late 80s, and again recently.

I'd say Roos is something of a cerebral outsider, at least compared to some coaches. They definitely have next to no home-produced players, and were the first team from outside Victoria, and the move was controversial like Jono said.

So I'd say that's at least 6 matches, maybe 7 or 8.
