Tour de Langkawi
Stage 2: Kangar - Kulim, flat 160-odd km
After an early strong breakaway was caught, two Japanese riders got away on 50 km. They weren't particularly dangerous, and easily chased down, though we spent way too much energy in doing so and struggled to keep going. In the mass sprint,
Pares had the lead with 350 metres to go, but couldn't quite hold on and was outsprinted by a rapid Loddo.

Stage 3: Kuala Kangsar - Cameron Highlands, 133 km
A rather long climb. Not very steep though, 6 % at the worst.
The early breakaway contained 11 riders, including decent sprinter Alexander Usov of AG2R and Australian ITT champion Michael Ford. No Casson Dairy riders, we saved ourselves for the climb, where first Tinkoff Credit Systems and then Casson Dairy tried to milk the peloton short of riders. Halfway through the 50km ascent, only 42 riders were left, and by the top of Kampung Raja, only 25 remained.
The first attack was countered by
Forner, who had to dig very deep to keep up with the pace set up by Duarte of Selle Italia; in danger of wearing him out, we decided not to attack with Forner on the second attack, by the best climber of the group, José Rujano of Unibet.com. That was a tactical blunder. Rujano raced with fury, and when
Arroyo - who seemed the strongest at the time - eventually counter-attacked, it was way too late. The small field couldn't catch him on the little descent, and finished a disappointing way back. However, it will mean that Unibet take over the responsibility of the yellow jersey.

A fair few flat stages here next. Waiting for the result of the 83 km stage to Genting Highlands - basically all climb - before attacking the yellow jersey. Think the team will have to work a lot harder to Genting Highlands though - got too defensive after having worn out the team on the previous flat stage.
