Possibly the limpest, most spineless innings seen from and England XI for a very long time, judging by the fact that this is supposed to be an absolute road. Last I heard Bell & Collingwood had both passed 50 with the new ball due any time. Surely, well set, on this wicket, they could see it off. Apparently not - both transparently petrified of the new cherry being sent down at anything above 80 mph. Bell, true to my prediction after the last test, managed another 50 to make it difficult to drop him, but yet another Englishman couldn't go on with it.
Dire times for the English cricket side. Whilst it's lovely to think that Fred & Tresco will return in anything like their form from two years ago, it's looking less & less likely and nigh on impossible respectively. The real need is either for this lot to grow up, address their weakneses and start to look like serious test cricketers, or for Moores to grow a spine and send a few of them on their way. That doesn't have to mean a return to the 'cast-of-thousands' approach of the 1980's & 1990's - but nowadays, you do wonder what a centrally contracted player has to do to be dropped. And, you suspect, they know it all too well.
