again from a sri lankan perspective, i'm disappointed that couple of guys who are supposedly in the running for selection for the national side in the near future have failed in both innings i.e. warnapura, udawatte. i'm intrigued by perera and prasad though.

Not so good to see all the batsmen get a bowl here. This Lankan XI A only has four specialist batsmen!

Pieterson admits being shaken up for this life:

Cricinfo said:
Kevin Pietersen has admitted that he was fearful for his safety when Sreesanth sent down a beamer during the second Test at Trent Bridge. It was one of a number of incidents during a highly-charged match, which India won by seven wickets to take a 1-0 series lead.

Pietersen was batting on the fourth afternoon when Sreesanth, who struggled for his rhythm throughout the game, let go a beamer which flew past Pietersen's head as the batsman managed to sway out of the way. A few overs later an unsettled Pietersen was trapped lbw, padding up, by RP Singh.

"I was shaken up on a cricket pitch for the first time in my life at Trent Bridge and I'm not too proud to admit it," Pietersen said in his News of the World column. "I thought the beamer that Sreesanth bowled at me was going to take my head off.

"People say that sport is not a matter of life and death, but for a few seconds there I thought my number was up. Luckily, I just managed to get out of the way but I ended up in a heap on the pitch thinking 'that could have killed me'.

"I was not physically shaking or throwing up, but it definitely unsettled me mentally and that has never happened before. I'm a lucky boy to have quick reflexes otherwise I could have been a goner."

I agree with the idea of an automatic penalty, when it's a head-high beamer like that the bowler should be immediately banned from bowling in the match and banned for a further match (something along those lines). Beamers that are borderline are a bit different.
I agree.

Sreesanth is an absolute shocker and I would have no qualms about never seeing him on a cricket pitch again.. He's a young kid with a lot of talent and a severe attitude problem.. I used to compare him to Andre Nel, wearing his heart on his sleeve, but I don't think he would stoop to a two foot no ball or a deliberate (?) beamer.. Not impressed

My view (little late) Of this whole jelly bean thing. England seem to be getting too big for there boots (Although they've been like this for two years now) And Collingwoods comment was just asking for trouble.

Making a remark like that concerning something so dangerous, unbelievable.
There's a reason they have equipment on. You have a helmet..if you are worried about your chest, wear a chest pad. If you are scared of a Cricket ball you shouldn't be playing Cricket

I mean the guy even put his hand up after he bowled it. He just bowled 1 beamer. If it was like 10 a ban would be understandable.

Players have a fair chance of avoiding bouncers, the ball is travelling slower (because it bounces) and at less direct angle as well, so any impact is going to be reduced and generally more of a glancing blow.

That ball could easily have hit his neck, flush at 80mph.

I'm amazed I even need to argue this.

I honestly believe Athertons opinions are stupid. Banning for bowling 1 beamer. Grow up it's cricket
Why is it stupid ? If you ban a beamer, you should be banned. I watched the video and it seems to me that it was deliberate. If you read KP's comment, it did have an effect on him and he was shaken for a while and I have no reason to not believe him. IMO it affected his batting after that.

Bowlers like SreeSanth need to grow up, just because they have got a ball, doesn't mean they can start using it like a weapon. Bowling a beamer is illegal and the onus is on the bowler to not bowl it.

For me almost every beamer bowled in international cricket is deliberate, the ball can't just slip from your hand and still be aiming batsman's head almost every time.

If you bowl 10 beamers in a game, you should face life ban. One beamer and then stepping over by two feet is no accident and I really have no sympathy towards SreeSanth. He should be dropped, now.

Let me take a wild guess here and say you've never played cricket before.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who's a regular bowler in any form of cricket will tell you that it is very possible to bowl a beamer without meaning to.
