Another 'decent' performance from my guys. We are chasing now:

Code:
End of Over 25: 133-2, runrate=5.32, reqrunrate=8.28 (339-6)
Swales 6-0-21-0
Lucas* 56 (71 balls)
Muralitharan 52 (41 balls)

Last Wicket: Ellis c. Wilson b. Town 22 (FOW: 58/2)
Murali first 50 this season, played him as specialist batsmen this match.

Peculiarly toothless bowling, Pace picked up some utterly useless wickets at the end while getting completely hammered by the ton-up batsman.

End of Over 49: 265-8, runrate=5.41
Pace 10-1-68-7
Yate* 122 (104 balls)
Churms 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Churms c. Armstrong b. Pace 0 (FOW: 265/8)

They got 8 off the last over to score 273-8. My main batsmen will now probably contrive to be useless now, not too fussed about the result - I'd like to win a couple so I can rest my spinner all-rounders while I get their stamina up.

Cruised to 330-3 against some also-rans on a green pitch. Janes annoyingly out in the last over just as I started to wonder if he'd be topping the league averages. :)

End of Over 50: 330-3, runrate=6.60
Griffith 10-0-80-1
Piton* 9 (3 balls)
Platt 18 (12 balls)

Good start for Mahindinho defending 221, I see. Bit of an Indian summer for the Wonderers...

End of Over 4: 11-2, runrate=2.75, reqrunrate=4.59 (221-10)
Hirst 2-1-6-0
Bibi* 4 (4 balls)
Baker 3 (3 balls)

In other news, there's a vaguely humorous bug posted in sledging; apparently overs are being repeated identically within individual matches; commentary, wickets 'n all (only the batsmen change). Bit of a weird one; suggests to me that there's some rather crude monkeying around going on in the engine to make individual overs look more "realistic", rather than calculating outcomes ball-by-ball.

I take it you're saving energy for a playoff rather than pushing for automatic promotion then, Scaly? Ah, but I guess the two teams in the automatic spots don't look much like losing from here in.

My match was entirely painless:

And that's the end of the match. Beard XI won by 237 runs.
Beard XI 330-3 (Bromby 138, Janes 108)
Thirteenamo Kiev 93-10 (Oleary 4-17)

Man, it's quiet around here today. Am I the only one home ill with nowt better to do? :-O

I don't particularly want to promote to be honest. But I still want to finish first and have a play off, whilst also training up Preece & Dillon's stamina without their PFLs being crippled next season.

Anyway I need 34 to win with 6 wickets left and 6 overs left. I've got Preece and Dillon in but their best bowler is coming back shortly. If other results go my way (which they definitely could) and I win this I could have practically wrapped the 1st place up.

SIX BATSMEN TAKE A WALK ON THE WILDE SIDE - BUT HAVE THE GURS RUN OUT OF ROAD?

A bitter/sweet day in many ways for Gurs' Chairman Vayro. He'll reflect warmly tonight on Sup/Resp RM John Wilde's first fiverfer for the club, but lament that it was all too little too late to restrict Rehtakul Veets CC&FC to the sort of score which could have yielded precious NRR points. He'll admire the depth of his batting which saw Rem/Sup Staveley and Sup/Wond Noon rescue his side from potential danger at 112/2, but shake his head that Greening and Jeffery threw their wickets away when well set, allowing the run rate to tumble. He'll marvel at the thirty thousand fans who filled the newly expanded stadium to keep the promotion dream alive, but privately, he and many of them will now have to concede that they've simply left themselves too much work in the last three games.

After being asked to bat by Gurs' Captain Strong/Resp Bat Patel, Bailey, one of only three Exc Bats in the division, provided the corner-stone of The Veets 252 A/O, with an unbeaten 122. Bewers struck in his first spell to remove Rem McCarthy for 30, with the score on 49, but then the Gurs allowed things to drift, as Bailey added first 70 for the second wicket with Prof Byrne, then 119 for the third with Qual Kempson. Wilde did bag three separate braces of wickets in his final spell, but by then irreparable damage had already been done to The Gurs' chances of winning the league, if not the match. And nobody will feel that disappointment more acutely tonight than Gurs' hitman, Rem/Sup LM Bewers, who after starting the season so promisingly, has now taken just one wicket in his last three matches, including today's worst figures of 1/66. Wilde took the MOTM Champaign for his 6/55, while Sup/Resp LFM Carlton, Strong/Strong LHS Jeffery and Strong/Prof LHS Cash were solid yet anonymous with 0/46, 1/43 and 0/48 respectively.

So the Gurs needed their Exc Batsman, Greening to do as his counterpart had done, if his side were not only going to win, but win at the sort of rate which could keep them in the Championship race. And whilst he did contribute to a 101 run opening partnership, he, like Bewers, was unusually subdued, leaving the role of aggressor-in-chief to opening partner, Strong/Prof pinch-hitter Jeffery. The pair had brought up the hundred in the twentieth over, having seemingly set the platform to launch an attack, when Greening fended a half-hearted catch to keeper Bailey, for a dismissal which perfectly encapsulated the soporific nature of his innings. His departure for 34 brought an equally soporific Staveley to the crease, who took fully four overs to wipe the sleep from his eyes following his nap in the dressingroom. The good news was that, with the score on 112, he was soon shaken from his slumber, the bad news however was that he was roused by a mid-pitch collision with Jeffery, which cost the latter his wicket for a tree-chopping 71, 8 x4, 2 x6. .

Having witnessed both the way Jeffery had been wielding his bat and the look on his face as he limped from the pitch, Staveley decided sensibly that he'd ought to see the match out from the middle, in order to give Jeffery the maximum possible cooling off time! And in fairness neither he, (83*), nor Noon, (57*) ever looked in danger of letting the win slip, as they progressed steadfastly towards the chequered Flag, though alas, more in the fashion of a Challenger tank than a Ferrari, guzzling up the overs to come home in 45 exactly.

And the news was no better from the dressingroom, as confirmation came through that Whos Your Daddy had taken a 2.73 NRR boost from their win over relegation-haunted Victoria Drivers, as compared with The Gurs slender 0.59 increase. Overall, both sides have 40 points from eleven games, with The Daddys leading the way with 21.54 NRR, to The Gurs' 16.90. One small shred of hope - Next week the tables are turned, with Vayro's men travelling to out-of-sorts Victoria Drivers, and The Daddys playing host to the rapidly improving Veets.

PAN RATINGS:

Cymru Gurgitaters Rehtakul Veets CC&FC
Top Order: quality quality
Middle Order: proficient competent
Lower Order: woeful worthless
Seam Bowling: strong proficient
Spin Bowling: proficient superb
Fielding: feeble feeble

How are everyone's run-ins looking? Looks as though Mahindinho might escape the drop, Scaly could be going up, and possibly another title for Adam? How about the rest of you?

Later, Trev,

PS, Know this is the wrong thread, but I'm off home in a sec, and quite frankly I'm more scared of my Mrs than I am of James!...But Good luck for Sunday Rob! Reckon you'll most likely win, but I hope to make it tough for you.

Looks like an exciting end to the season ahead of you, Trev. I dunno, looking at the fixture list I think you're in with a good chance, despite the NRR deficit. Fingers crossed...

I'm in 3rd place with 3 easy wins ahead of me, after which -- assuming the match between 1st and 2nd place goes to form (which isn't a given) -- I should finish second on NRR, just where I was last time. I'd actually rather not be 2nd, because it's a crappy draw for the next season; you get to play the two toughest teams right at the start, and you get a complete dearth of home matches in the second half of the season, which makes budgeting a pain. In a league like mine where there are really only three truly competitive teams, playing the other two early doors is a major pain in the arse. Still, I'm buggered if I'm letting a promotee from Div VI come ahead of me, even if he has been playing the game 6 months longer than I have. Rrrraargh! :)

I'm currently deliberating over whether to spend my cash pile (2.6m-ish, should be 3m by the end of the season) on a relatively gun bowler, or whether to fire up my youth academy properly for the first time, try and get a gun trainee and give him Pead's nets at the start of next season. Am leaning towards the latter, as I really want to keep max interest, and the sort of gun you get for 1-2m these days is more of a water pistol. Or I could buy some slightly higher-calibre filler than the comp/med rubbish I have at present, but in a season's time they'll be just as obsolete anyway. Hmm.

Most likely I'll put a no ITS YP with a BT rating of like 10 tonight. For pure comic hilarity I'll keep him and open the bowling with him in my league match next week on very attacking.

Yeah, I'm definitely not confident of winning - I think it'll be a very tough game. It's our first encounter against each other, too, so it should be a cracker. Good luck.

Wait until next season mate so you get a whole season to train them otherwise if you get a 17 year old now he'll be 18 in a few weeks and will take longer to pop.

And it's a max 35 ITS on 17 year olds and it's only worth pulling 17's anyway.

Quick question... how many guys should you have in the nets at one time? Is it worth having any more than a couple of 17yos in there with 5 nets each? Any more above that and it gets to putting them down to just 3 nets for at least one of them and I'm not sure that's worth the nets at all or not.

Unless it's an all-rounder/wicket-keeper etc 5 is overkill. Usually 3 is enough, 2 primary and 1 fitness.

I'm free for a friendly btw anyone... will rest Dillon & Preece but you'll still have Summers et al to deal with.

Smashed a new team in my league yesterday:

The Heath CC: 396/2 (50) Grant 210* (147), Thorpe 152 (148)
OAKDALE: 67/10 (16.4) Woods 4/24 (5)

The Heath CC win by 329 runs.

Plenty of records shattered - biggest margin of victory, biggest team score, biggest individual score, biggest partnership (Grant and Thorpe put on 375 for the 2nd wicket), best team bowling performance. Not a bad day at the office.
