I know, it's not gonna happen, but I can always hope.

It'll be the same story as last year with Liverpool. They'll do adequately in the league and get knocked out of both the cups early so they can focus their attention on the Champions League.

Yeah, every summer without exception it's always Liverpool's year, or so people tell us, however it never is. Their side simply isn't very good compared with Chelsea, United, or for that matter a few other European giants.

Nah, they have an excellent squad. Only department they're lacking in is the winger department, but they've sorta rectified that by signing Babel, who can play on the left.

Hello Tevez. :D Sorted! About time. Now we can get back to more important things.

I guess I'm still one of the few United supporters who hasn't followed football long enough to really hate Liverpool. I hope they do well. I hope United do better, of course, but I'd rather see Liverpool win a cup than Chelsea.

They're lacking in more than the winger department IMO, they also need a striker. They've got no 20+ goals a season man, whatever the media will tell you about Torres - I'd have been quite disappointed if United had got him, as looked possible at one point.

Not safe words there Towns. Same about not following football for long but no way should you support them over Chelsea. Blasphemous really.

Believe me the red part (not half, because there is another professional outfit on merseyside you know :p) are much, much more tolerable than the moaning, whining, whingeing, spitting, mobile phone throwing, good for nothing blues.

Some of them are okay mind
Fair enough.

No, not really. There's no obligation for a United fan to hate Liverpool. I wouldn't expect anyone who was just getting used to watching rugby and decided to support the All Blacks to hate the Wallabies "just because it seems to be what is done" either.

EDIT: If a United fan needs to feel "one up" over Liverpool, then you can at least take heart that in the past three years, Liverpool haven't even felt like a big enough threat (Premiership-wise) to really pick up a rivalry for the new guys such as myself.

Not that you should hate them but the whole thing of supporting them over Chelsea. Not on.

I don't understand why I should support Chelsea over Liverpool just because I'm a United fan. I was pleased when 'pool knocked Chelsea out of the CL, for example. Can you give me one good reason why I should support Chelsea over Liverpool?

Yeah i read that post where Towns schooled you up as well.
Haha, I had to edit that post so many times due to the double-conversations and edits that were done to previous posts that I pretty much deleted half of it in frustration.

Same, but only because I'd rather have played Liverpool in the final than Chelsea (that was before we went out, obviously).

I have two reasons for despising Liverpool. Firstly, the influence of my dad who despises them for the same reason as most United fans - their history of success. Secondly, the level of hate that Liverpool fans show United fans leads me to hate them in return.

I don't much like Chelsea, but they've got a long way to go to overcome Liverpool for mine.

What was the third reason?

I don't have to deal with those reasons. My brother-in-law and a few mates of mine are Liverpool fans and they don't show United any hate, just the average digs I get out of any City, Arsenal, Newcastle or West Ham fan really.

My dad doesn't watch football (well, he does, but only the rugby kind), so I don't have that. So yeah, still no reasons why I personally should support Chelsea over Liverpool (I know you weren't the one saying I should, mind you)...

Chelsea are my favourite Premiership club and have been since the 96/97 season when they signed Zola.

There are historical reasons as well as footballing why Liverpool is to be hated. Doesn't mean you have to but try telling Gary Neville you'd prefer Liverpool over Chelsea. Wouldn't go down well. If it's between Arsenal and Liverpool as well, Arsenal gets the nod IMO. Just to be in good graces with United fans who know the history of the club and what it's about don't go showing any love for Liverpool.

I know loads of United fans (obviously, I suppose we all do) and I post regularly at United forums. There was even a discussion on this very subject and people agreed it doesn't matter if you do or don't hate Liverpool. I'm in their good graces well enough.

Something tells me Gary Neville wouldn't give a second thought as to which teams I preferred after United, let alone that I supported United in the first place. He doesn't even know who I am.

Maybe you should ask Ronaldo if he hates Liverpool. Doubt he gives a crap either way, either. Maybe he'd support Chelsea on the "Portuguese compatriot" basis.

After looking at the thread about who "supported" which team in the Chelsea vs. Liverpool semi in the CL last season, 5 said neither, 3 said Chelsea and 13 said Liverpool. And there you go!

Think of it like having a rival for a long time and then some bastard upstart comes along and tries to outdo the both of you. Haven't you ever seen it in comic books where the good guys and the bad guys team up to beat up the "new big bad guy"? It's like that, I suppose.

But more to the point for myself, you just can't "force" a hatred. If you hate something without any reason but "everyone else does" then you're clearly incapable of thinking for yourself. You can want to beat them due to things you read about with regards to the past, but you can't hate them just like that. Especially when you don't know any wanker Liverpool fans. Maybe you just know a bunch of wankers that happen to be 'pool fans, Rose? :p
