***Official*** India in England

Agreed, with the technical deficiencies that he has, and the fact that he looks so uncomfortable when facing certain types of deliveries...I wouldn't peg him to have an average in the thirties, let alone slightly over 40.

I disagree really. Given his technical difficulties which every man and his dog knows about, I think he's done very well to achieve what he has.
The thing is, he could've done a lot better, even given his technical issues. He has an amazing record in England which indicates he can indeed score runs on seaming and bouncy pitches, what surprises me is his very poor record in India, where he only averages 36. I would've expected him to do a fair bit better, given the low nature of pitches in that country.

He was 17 by then.
 Is this failing? Making a 57 off 134 balls after India were 38/4 in the second inning of the test match to save the test and the series? You just looked at the series averages and concluded that he failed. How very convenient. And Tendulkar was 16 when he was playing that test.

If he adds a couple MPH in speed, he could be a real handful. He gets the bounce but he bowls in the high seventies, which is a little slower than what he should aim for.

I reckon he's a bit of a dick TBH.
Nah county player that came out of nowhere, to the shock of everyone and did well on 'debut', then nailed down a place in the Test side - is one of the great recent cricket stories. Like him heaps.

Haha, he can be a great cricketing story and still be a dick personally. I have no idea either way.

His performances have been good, no doubt about it, I just don't like the way he puts on a bit of a show after he beats the outside edge. He's been quite unlucky, but it just looks stupid, especially all that aggression, makes him look like a gollywog.

Firstly, we don't know any of them personally, secondly you can't really judge a player form a few grunts in the field and getting abit angry when he doesn't get the breakthroughs. It would be silly to call someone a dick because of that. For me, I like sportsmen for their stories and what they've achieved, not their supposed personalities which have no idea about anyways.

Nor do I. Seems like a big, gumpy bugger. Admittedly he has bowled fairly well in this Test.
Nothing to do with what he seems like, again I don't care how he comes across on the field, he just doesn't seem that good to warrant all the frothing that's been done over him recently, imo.

No, we don't know them personally but we can still make a judgement based on what we see on the field, how they come across in interviews and their reputation. The only reason I don't like Sidebottom and think he comes across as a bit of a dick is because of the way he acts on the field, espcially after finding the edge or just missing it. It's not the full story of his personality, but it's enough to form an opinion.
