The video ref - where's the happy medium?
Russell Smith took 4 moinutes to decide on a try yesterday - ridiculous.
Then Ben Smith gets called for a knock-on when the ball hits his legs - should have been a line drop out, instead Manly get a scrum feed. Video ref can't rule on it, as it's not an adjudication on a try.
Where's the happy medium?
Likewise - in the set just before Lyon's second try, Hindmarsh pinged for a knock-on from Orford's kick - and he did knock it on, but only after Cuthbertson spilt the ball into Hindmarsh first, which is itself a knock-on and shold have been a Parra feed.
The video ref used to look at these things then they canned it, probably because it took too long. Should the video ref be brought back into it?
Personally, I think it's more important to get it right, and it only happens a couple of times per game anyway. I'd like to see the video ref look at those things, because there's a stoppage in play anyway, so it's not likely to slow the game down.
As for yesterday, that Manly-Parra game was a cracker imo. Quality stuff,
........even if the wrong side lost.
