I don't think Cumming would have made a great deal of difference, he is an average List A player but had quite a good last season which probably put him in the mix. Ryder is also quite a poor List A bastman and I don't think he should be in consideration for the ODI team, especially given his weight problems which could well hinder him in the field. Those two should come close to the Test side though.

Not too sure where you got those stats from Bahnz, but these look a little more official, not quite complete though.

Elliott didn't get much of a chance to bowl, did he. Then, I guess it wasn't needed. On paper though, the Kiwi bowling was much stronger than the batting. I'm disappointed with Aaron Redmond and Rob Nicol with the bat. I still think Hiini should have been in the squad that went over there, along with Peter Ingram.

TBF both Redmond and Nicol are much better First Class players than List A players, they were unlucky they didn't have the chance to impress in a few four day games over there.

You've doubled up on Bennett and McMillan's bowling figures there mate, (unless of course they are in fact exactly the same)
Nope I double checked, and they have the exact same figures for the series.

I got my figures using excel and the score sheets provided. The official records include the results from the 20/20 games, which I didn't include in my summary, as obviously one day and 20/20 cricket are completely different.

Cumming did have a pretty solid season in List A last year, and Ryder performed superbly for NZA in last years emerging players tournament. I just get the feeling they would have done a lot better than How and Redmond.

Not Terrible
Players I would like to see in the future....

Mark Gillespie - As said earlier hes gat a much better domestic record than Martin lately.
Graeme Aldridge - Also has shown some bowling talent over the past few seasons
Bruce Martin and Nathan Mcullum - Both have potential and could get places IMO
Ross Taylor - Of course hes going to be in the squad more often after WC probably
Jesse Ryder - Another one that is promising with the bat but would he succeed? Big ?

Thats it really at the moment but a player I would like to see play is Jonathan Trott even though I don't think he'll ever want to play for us or get residency here. I still can't believe they use 7 bowlers ahead of him in county cricket, it's puzzling although his figures were 1-22 off 2 overs in his last spell.

The blackcaps have some potentially good players to fill in spots in the future. Looking forward to the WC and hope to see something special from our players.

How does everyone think our squad would fit in West Indies conditions?

Decent calls.

Well the emerging players tournament is over an has turned up some interesting things. I've managed to get some statistics for the tournament, though they're incomplete as I couldn't find the scorecard for one of the games.
Heh, yes they turned out to be a disappointing crop - O'Brien the surprising exception (and a bit of N.McCullum).

So anyway;

7 tests
3 wins
2 losses
2 draws

Not bad on paper, but one of the wins was demolishing the hapless Zimbabweans on our home turf. No questions the test over in their paddock was hard fought though.

We've actually found some players this summer, and appear to be building some bowling depth. The four man pace attack was great viewing and a success wickets wise. Hobart was a special test.

Pros

Doug Bracewell

Won two tests for us. The first saving us from a humiliating defeat, and the second a historic win where he turned the match on its head. Knows his game, has a superb game, and doesn't have an injury prone action. 30 @ 22.83 from 7 tests isn't terrible.

Chris Martin

He's arrived as a force at the grand old age of 37. 27 @ 25.70 is a fantastic return beyond what I thought possible from him. Hughes c Guptill b Martin will never get boring.

Kane Williamson

Played the ballsiest (literally) knock I've seen from one of our batsmen in some time today. His summer started poorly but in this series he's grown as a batsman against the best attack he has ever faced.

Dean Brownlie

Head and shoulders above his peers in Australia, and arguably the best Australian batsman on display. Was frustrating in this test but considering his injury layoff it is understandable.

Mark Gillespie

His career looked finished at the halfway mark of the Plunket Shield, but he's returned with a vengeance. Can't knock him in this series. Hopefully he stays fit and semi-consistent.

Kruger van Wyk

Classy keeper, and a good batsman. Book him for a test hundred next season.

Trent Boult

Looks a keeper. Should never have been dropped.

General Depth

We're finding bowlers, keepers and even the odd batsman now that Ryder is on the sideline and Flynn had to convert to opening to get a game. Without seeing them in test cricket we can't lock them in as guns but it's great to see competition between players other than Sinclair and Adams. (It's great to have them still playing FC as well).

Cons

Daniel Vettori

Is negligible with the ball. Building pressure is all well and good, but the best pressure is numbers in the wickets column. His batting has been quiet this season, which is a shame, because he can and will, if given the chance, cement his place in the top six.

Martin Guptill

Scored a fifty yesterday, but I'm not convinced. He's been scoring face saving fifties his entire career. He's never strung consistent performances together in the whites and just isn't very good right now imo, but gets away with it like Flynn in 2008 because he plays beautiful cricket shots. Awesome attitude towards improvement though and I hope he slaughters county bowlers over the winter.

Jesse Ryder

Really disappointing.

Rob Nicol

Pushed too far too soon. Solid batsman at the level below but you want to be in the form of your life to debut against that attack.

In fact you just don't want to debut against that attack.

Would add McCullum at the top order as a pro. It's certainly a pro by comparison to what I was expecting from a summer of McCullum opening (or 3) against Australia and SA (hint: not a lot). Commentators can now talk of him as one of NZ's key wickets and I don't grimace.

Pro's

Williamson producing a couple of fighting knocks against top quality pace bowling

Bracewell generally hitting a good length

Kruger ****ting all over SA's hopes of a win at the Basin

Con's

Ryder Y U HAV NO BRAIN

Nicol

Bates and CdG actually getting games against SA.

Oram, poor, poor Oram

Taylor repeatedly getting out to short wide balls

McCullum still batting like he's had a full labotomy

The fact that we can't take 20 wickets without 5 bowlers

The fact that we can't score enough runs with 5 specialist batsmen

Anything that Guptill does that isn't a straight drive.

Hard to disagree with that, although Vettori's lucky to miss out on your cons list.
