Indian Cricket League thread

More attractive IMO. Generates fans rather than when they still wore whites for ODIs. Tests alone deserve to wear the whites TBH.
ODIs have been massively popular since before Packer, never mind before coloured clothing became the norm.

Really, it's one of those things that's neither here nor there. I honestly don't think it's remotely here nor there the clothing that's worn, really.

Yup. I hope it affects the international game, but I doubt it will. And anything that makes BCCI uncomfortable is fine by me. The tournament will move from 20/20 to OD if its successful, and though I doubt it will ever do anything like 4 day cricket (no money in it)...I sincerely hope the tournament becomes much stronger than the BCCI List A competitions.

I was always worried this might happen.
Heh, and I was always hopeful this might happen. What would really make it awesome for me is if someone on the Indian national team would retire and lend their name this instead. Someone like Dravid or Tendulkar, big names who are maybe a couple years from retirement, take this opportunity and draw huge crowds/money away from the BCCI. Not that I expect them to do anything like it, but I can dream :).

Adding an Indian superstar like that would be absolutely fantastic. Imagine, Lara, Warne, McGrath, Fleming, Tendulkar all in one competition playing for a prize...I'd watch that over the seven ODI snooze fest about to happen with ENG/IND, or games like BAN-Anyone.

Until the ICL sign up Indian prospects or do something notable at home, this is nothing but entertainment and cash flow to me. Don't really know if these guys have a vision or are just a bunch of rebels with lots of money to dish out. Lara, Warne and McGrath - what does that have to do with the BCCI or Indian cricket?

Hopefully, BCCI starts losing Indian prospects, or even established stars. That would seep into their revenues (if they have to compete for TV rights, for example). It hasn't happened yet, but one can hope.

So the integrity of the international game seriously suffering just so the BCCI can get its comeuppance is good? 8-)8-)8-)

Integrity of the international game? India are not exactly a force in international cricket. I daresay that it is almost impossible for us to win any less overseas tours in the last 20 years (eg. we've won one, zero up until WI a year ago).

And yes, it would be worth it to see BCCI destroyed. The popularity is such that cricket would rise again, and you hope that the replacement isn't as bad as the BCCI, but that's not a big worry, because frankly, unless we imported Peter Chingoka, it can't be.

The point is it's not just India who are in danger of being damaged - if Kiwis and, say, South Africans and other West Indians were drawn to the thing as well, that'd be four countries wiped from the map in one fell swoop - IOW, half of international cricket gone.

And I've been through this with you before - yes, India are a force in international cricket, a tour of India is usually the toughest thing going around if those responsible do things right. If India ceased to be credible international opposition, even just temporarily as Australia did 1977\78-1979\80, the game of cricket would be massively, massively hurt, possibly irreparably. Because believe it or not, it's not just away results that count.

Heresy.

Their seems to be an interest in young aussies not on contract to their states, including those in the australian under 19 team.

So far they are only atracting retired vetrans - Warne. McGrath, Lara - wether they can do what Packer did (and Ali Bacher generally did not - most of the rebel tourists of the 1980s weren't automatic choices for their countries) and attract current stars remains to be seen. I wonder if they'll attract those S Africans who choose to come here in the summer on Kolpaks - but I wouldn't worry until they can get a big name CURRENT player - and TBH, I don't think a 20/20 or 50 over competition on its own will do that.
