New Cricket Trivia - 'SJS format'

International Coach
I am trying to think of players who have played for SA and someone else, Did Jack Hearne play for both?

I also think Traicos (spelling) played for Zim and SA?

Traicos was born in Egypt and played for SAfrica and Zim
(now I'll check to see if my intuition is right)

I'll have a go...

We scored over half of our teams score in the 1st innings (excluding extras)
Then we scored over half of teams score in the 2nd innings (excluding extras) of the same match.

Our team still lost.

Who are we (2 players) ?

Engle asks just my sort of questions :)

WI v SL, Colombo, 2001/2

WI 390 (Lara 221, Sarwan 69) & 262 (Lara 130, Sarwan 66)

SL 627 and 27/0

=================

50% of the team score is quite low and it is highly likely there are a few more cases. But you will get the above answer even if the percentage is above 70%

Re 50%, Zim v SAF 2001/2 is another example - A Flower scored 142 (out of 286) and 199* out 391. Since he scored more than half the score on his own in the second innings, any of several players who scored a few runs in the first innings can fulfil the 50% criteria. SAF won by 9 wickets.

You're a walking genius Tapi.

I believe these are the only 2 instances, if there are more, pls let me know.

The other aspect is that AFlower overcame Sutcliffe's long-standing record of most runs in a losing cause, then this was almost immediately beaten by Lara.

This is another question where you can find the answer by going carefully through the scorecards.

When this happened in the Multan Test between Pakistan & India in 2003-04, some of us in another cricket forum set out to investigate how often it has happened in Test cricket. We found that, somewhat surprisingly, it has happened only four times in Tests (plus a couple of instances where it was a possibility but we could not confirm it from the scorecard).

These are the four Test matches -

Multan 2003-04 - http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/79/79332.html
SSC, 1999-00 - http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/68/68437.html
Johannesburg 1905-06 http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/6/6939.html and
MCG 1903-04 - http://cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Scorecards/6/6399.html (in this case though, you cannot ascertain it from scorecard alone)

What is the minor incident that connects them ?

1. Does it have to do with ducks ?
2. Does it have to do with balls bowled ?
3. Does it have to do with close of play scores ?

Welldone :)

You would think that it is fairly common, wouldn't you :)
Indeed, certainly more than a handful of times in all Test history.

Well done Engle, and good question Tapi - I wish I could devote the time to analysing your questions that they deserve, but sadly I think my work would notice if I was just pouring over scorecards all day... ;)

OK, here's an easy one for fun

Which cricketer has the greatest difference between his highest Test score and 2nd highest Test score ?
