It (Dravid opening) has its advantages and disadvantages. If there were only advantages, it would be an easy decision to make.
I see the holes filled bigger than the hole created. The opener problem which is huge would have a chance to be solved. Laxman could do well at 3 any ways.
Dravid as opener has a bad record but I would have given it a proper run years back. It is not an option right now though - it is like saying some one would want Badrinath in the middle order for the second test.

Dhoni was not good behind the stumps. Lets give Kaarthick a chance to keep this time. Yuvi can replace dhoni as both of them are same kind of aggressive players. Yuvi, can be a bit useful with the ball and provide good variety against spin-shaky english batsman. Good option in the lower order and very much composed cricketer who can be handy in the fielding too.
BTW, you can ask me , why not drop Laxman... Laxman is good batting at No.3. I would still back him up, if he bats high up the order he can bat well. He is a good slip fielder too. Give him another chance!

Becuase not only is he a genius batsman, it would also bring down the whole morale of the team, because the person who has inspired many of them isn't around anymore.

Thats not a good reason to keep him around. If he does not perform, he should be dropped. The players are adults, and as far as Iwhat can be believed via ex-coaches, are all jealous of each other anyway.

Crap argument, you can't keep a player in the side under the pretence that he inspires others( bar Mike Brealey which i debate anyway), not when his performance is as bad as Tendulkar's has been in recent years.
