Symonds speaks up for Murali

The Wheel is Forever
There is a much larger chance of these things happening in the ground (can only talk about the MCG from experience) with people drinking and idiotic notion that all social norms go out the window because we're at a cricket game and have the right to act like hooligans. If you've ever been to the MCG, at times it's almost impossible to watch the cricket, so who needs that? Especially when it's abuse and abuse of the racial kind. I can fully understand someone like Sanz not wanting to put a foot inside there and rather watch the match in the safety of their own home.

I'm certainly not saying this is a widespread problem or even as big a deal as some of Australia's detractors might make it, but you'd have to be pretty blind to think it's not going on.
Exactly. Why take that chance? Especially when there are plenty of other countries and places where you could go to watch some great cricket instead?

I remember during the World XI vs Australia ODIs they had a couple of years ago there were some guys behind me shouting 'no-ball' and all the usual crap when Murali was bowling. I just looked at them, didn't even say anything, and had to put up with a torrent of abuse including racial abuse just for that. They were clearly drunk, but it doesn't excuse the behaviour and it wasn't the first time I'd experienced something like that. Luckily there was a very nice older English bloke who gave them a piece of his mind and they left me alone after that, but it was pretty poor especially considering I was there with my family, not just with friends my own age who are used to that sort of thing.
Yup, exactly what I'd rather not go through, especially if I am with my family.

Its a bit presumptuous of you to say you wouldn't enjoy your experience in Australia. Personally, I would love to watch a match there as the atmosphere seems absolutely electric.
Hah, what? I never said I never could enjoy it. I just said that considering what players and fans say about the abuse that goes on, I would rather go somewhere else. I certainly did not say that no one should go, or that you wouldn't enjoy it!

Haha, racial abuse is hardly the type of excitement most people are looking for.
Man this talk is annoying me so much.

It's like saying don't go to France because the people there are too arrogant..See for yourself before making a judgement..

Just focus on the game and talk with your friends and family, you most likely wont even get recognised, your just another face in the crowd...

SHRUG, unless you think everyone who is claiming to be abused at Australia is lying, I'd rather not take a chance. If it gets better, I would re-think my stance. If I ever visit Australia, I'd rather go to a beach in Sydney than put up with that crap.

Definitely would go to a cricket match if I had a chance in Australia, myself. Screw the abuse, I've never been to an international match.

Why is it so ? Why is it presumptuos If he thinks that he will not enjoy watching cricket stadium where racist abuse is thrown at players ? If these drunk racist can racially abuse players, it is very much possible that they can abuse someone who is sitting next to them in the stadium and is of difference race. Infact I personally wont enjoy that either and would rather not watch cricket at all.

If you can enjoy such environment, it is your choice and good luck to you, just hope that they dont throw those insults at you, but please dont call others choice as presumptuous or whatever.
Ever been to a game of cricket in Australia?

What a beat up8-)

I have been to every Test match ground in Aust except Perth, never in the members, I must have shocking hearing:wacko:
I didn't write the above article or hundreds of other news reports that are available on the net. Its not like I feel any kind of happiness in reading all that.

And Archie - I will read your post all day about cricket and cricketers, you have great knowledge of the history of the game but unfortunately when it comes to Australia you come across almost as blatantly biased Aussie as I have seen. I am sorry but I cant take your word on this because you completely deny even the existence of it.

I don't think Murali wuould be worried about racist abuse. Its mainly the no-ball thing that gets to him. Thankfully, he has gotten over it and is going to Aus this time around. Would really love to see him improve his record there.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Murali coming over and doing really well (but Australia still win :p ), because there are a lot of bellends who point to Murali's record in Australia in trying to disprove how good he is - which is obviously folly. And it's always fun to see those people with one leg less to stand on.

Last time when I talked on this issue then I was quite convinced by the statements of Australian authorities that they will kick "a few bad eggs" out of the ground . I wish hope and pray that this really happens .

I think Dasa always talks about his experience at ODI matches, and I only ever attend Tests:)

Tbh I've experienced stuff at Tests as well, just chose to give an example in an ODI.
