Clarke > Hayden, for mine.*Scurries to check Hodge's Twenty20 record*
Ah...average of nearly 50 after 31 domestic matches. Right how will I fit him in...
Gilchrist
Hayden
Ponting
Hodge
White
Symonds
Hussey
Lee
Hogg
Tait
Hilfenhaus
I don't see it, myself. His two Twenty20 internationals have produced scores of 6 and 20 thus far - which was two games, granted, but still. More importantly, I think he's a bit limited. He has power, but even in ODIs, his limitations with balls in certain general areas have been shown up given his strike rate of under 80. He had a gun WC on the count of the pitches being slow and low and hence so helpful towards his desire to hit bowlers over the long on rope - but aside from that shot and his general power, I don't think he has much to him. His ability to build an innings and partner someone like Gilchrist at the top has seen him through tougher times in ODIs, but it'd be a bit of a liability in Twenty20 cricket IMO.No way, Hayden's game is perfect for twenty20, especialy at the top of the order.
Yeah, I'm not saying he'd be the worst Twenty20 player of all time - in fact he'd probably make every other team going around. I just think Clarke's game would be more suited to it. He averages more than Hayden in ODIs with a higher strike rate, and I don't really think his best qualities would be lost to the format like Hayden's would either.Fair points, but i think saying "his limitations with balls in certain general areas have been shown up given his strike rate of under 80" is a bit unfair as his SR is 78 which in my book is well above average especialy given his average.
Yeah Hogg is a good player and will play instead of Tait in the WC.No spinner in the starting 11?
Hogg would be a definite pick for me, Cameron White's(and too an extent Symonds) bowling will be pretty useless in 2020 from what i've seen of him so far(but i'm not sure about his domestic stats) while Brad Hogg imo would do a great job.
Yeah, exactly. Symonds/Clarke bowling isn't really the problem - it's the fact that Hogg is a better option than Tait, Lee and Hilfenhaus anyway.Mmmm, well, looking at the team i guess he'd have to bowl if you were going to play 7 bats(which i might not do if i was Aus).
I'd be happy getting Clarke and symonds through 4 overs a match, but i would not want then going in as the sole spinners in the side which is what i'd want Hogg for.
