ACT 1st XI Coach Interviewed

First of all thankyou for agreeing to do this interview
No problem

Are you confiedent going into the year ahead?
I sure am, i have a good bunch of players in the squad this year, and with their success last year i am hoping we can get into the top 3 this year, or higher for that matter

I Tamhane has recently expressed concern over you being the coach for this season, what's that about?
Well, i coached the 2nd XI squad for half of last year, and we struggled to make an impact in that time. I believe he doesn't believe i can handle with the pressures of the 1st XI squad

Will he be dropped because of those comments?
Most certaintely not! I go with the philosophy of picking the best squad each week, so he will proberley play, depending how we go in the draft.

Who do you believe will be the biggest threat in your groud this year?
Tamil Nadu no doubt.

Who will be the weakest?
Tasmania

What players are you going to try and trade for in the draft?
I'm going to be looking for young players that have ability and than breed them up through 2nd XI, than put them into the 1st XI

Do you believe the pressure will be on you managing one of the most famous clubs in WCC history
While their will be pressure, i have a good 2nd XI manager who will help me in my squad selections. Also Simon has done a great job over the last couple of years with the squad, hopefully i can keep ACTs winning spirit up.

Thankyou for the interview and good luck
Cheers Mate

Bushrangers announce 2nd XI manager.

GARNER NAMED AS PEARSON'S ASSISTANT

Nick Garner, aka musha_13, was today unveiled as the new 2nd XI Manager of the Victorian Bushrangers. Garner was said to be estatic at his appointment and was really looking forward to working with the Victorian youngsters.

Another plus for the Bushrangers is that Garner himself is Victorian and is therefore very passionate about cricket in the state.

Queensland confident of defending their title

Queensland Manager Gaurav Nayak, found exiting his bungalow in downtown Brisbane stopped by to answer a few questions that the media had for him.

Glad to get the new season in then?
Yeah we're very confident, all the boys are raring to go. I'm really liking the look of our OD team, I frankly think that we've got what it takes to go all the way up there again, and defend our title. Might have to improve our FC standing a tad, but OD's the way we're going.

We understand your assistant manager Daniel Smith quit recently?
Yeah, Daniel need to sort out some stuff at home, and recently he has been really busy with other on-field committments. It's seems that he's become the captain of some 'rustic' 'antiquated' local cricket team. But Queensland will welcome him back, if he can free himself, despite his taste :p.

Any last words then?
To the organizers of course. Many thanks to them actually getting the next season in motion. Tharmi Loganathan and Bugssy Malone..

Thank you Mr Nayak
A pleasure.

Colts sign young guns

After the disappointment of finishing 3rd in last season Divison One OD Championship Colts have looked to rebuild this season with the signing for two of the most promising young OD batsmen in WCC, in South African Ian Bowes and Pakistani Asif Zakir. Both batsmen are coming of their rookie season where they finished with career averages of 65 and 62 respectively.

These two batsmen have been rated in the top four WCC batsmen in One Day game. The youngsters are expected to bat in the top four with fellow 60 plus batsmen Andrew Tweedie (64) and Farhan Abbasi (61).

On paper this top four is the greatest ever in WCC OD history. But once again the key for the Colts is whether they can get the most out these inexperienced batsmen, with only Andrew Tweedie having played more then 50 List A games in the Colts top seven.

Its belived that the next players on Colts hit list are Hamsphire keeper batsmen Tom Tomas and Guyana seamer Lasith Perera.

Alright before i do season previews i just want to see what managers goals are for this season. Are they looking for promotion, maintaining their spot in the division or just a rebuilding year.

Going into the off season there were two main key areas i was looking to improve at Colts in OD cricket. One was to get in a strike bowler which we achieved in Lakmal Perera and the 2nd was to get in a couple top line batsmen. Again something we achieved in securing the services of Ian Bowes and Asif Zakir.

But we still seem to have the same problems as last season, an inexperienced batting line up and a lack a top fast bowlers. Our bowling attack is made up of mainly medium pacers and spinners. I think these two factors will be mean we might fall short of the title this season. We would really love to win that OD championship but realistically a Top 3 finish is more of a realistic goal.

Our big name players well Andrew Tweedie is still up there is the best bats in WCC. Another year of experience and i think he could really shine this year. But i think our real strength is our batting line up in general, it might be inexperienced but 7 50 plus batsmen is pretty decent. If we are going to win the title it probably be on the back our batting line up outscoring the other teams too often. But due to our inexperience i think we will fall once too often.

Bowling wise we need a big season from Lakmal Perera, but i think the key is finding support from guys on paper who should preform better then what they have done in the past, both under myself and Age.

Really looking forward to this season i don't think there is going to be any easy games, really impressive to recruitment of Warks and ACT. As well as the sides Guyana and Tasmania are putting together.

The Goals for ACT are simple this year. With Simon leaving me, before i have alot of experience i'm aiming to stay in division 1 and challenge the top teams and maybe go furthur. Truth is we don't have a great OD lineup especially our bowling, but our batting is proberley one of the best OD Batting lineup in the competition with O Cardew, S Yashap, Qambani, M Ul Haq and more.

For our bowling we will need a big season from B Marshall who is one of the best OD bowlers.

Guyana goal for this sesaon is just to stay in the division. We always have a good team on paper, but nothing to show for it on the field, which is very disapointing. We've tried to improve our bowling stocks and develop better depth in our squad. Before we've had high profile players that either get injured or are terribly out of form and don't have the back up.

We need to have a big season from Jenkins if we are to be a chance, and we need our openers to set a solid start for our strong middle orders. Bowlers will need to keep it tight, but hoping Zulch and e-Akbar can be our main strikers in the one day arena.

Considering i wont have time to do proper season previews here some previews for Round One, some pretty big matches anyway.

ACT v Warwickshire

The two potential suprised packets of this division up against each. An interesting match, on one hand you have a very strong batting line (ACT) against a side with a strong bowling attack (Warks). Both sides have imported heavy in the off season, so it a chance to for both managers to see how the new recuits go. I think the experience factor in ACT's batting line up will get them over the line against an inexperience but talented Warks bowling attack.

Colts v Victoria

The first of the two big match ups. Both sides have struggled a little bit in the pre season matches. Victoria have already dropped Brett Lee for De Silva to try and solve their issues with their bowling attack. Colts have yet to name a side but are expected to go with a similar side that played QLD in the pre season match. Except Victoria's bowling especially Harwood (who has crazy record against Colts) to knock over Colts cheaply and win the match. If it is a high scoring match, Colts might have too much quality in the batting line up though.

Guyana v Tasmania

Potential early season basement battle. Tasmania will be looking to show its D1 rivals they are not here just to make up the number and Guyana will be looking show last season was no fluke and they have a side that is good enough to keep its spot in D1. With the injury to Power, the Guyana batting looks to lack the quality to withstand a solid Tasmania bowling attack. Both sides have a pretty well rounded side, but unless a couple of Guyana players really step up they might struggle in this match. The overall depth in Tasmania side should get them through, unless one Guyana big name players has a top game.

Queensland v Tamil Nadu

The second of the big matches this round. Queensland like Victoria have struggled to find the right bowling combinations during the pre season and have been smashed in a few matches. They have gone back to their successful bowling attack of last season. But will they be able to contain potential the No 1 batting line up in OD cricket in WCC. Queensland need a big match from Ali and he found missing again, TN could run away with this match. But i'll back Queensland at home and their experienced bowling attack should fair a lot better then the ones that played in the first two pre season matches.

Since when is the TN batting line-up better than the Colts'?
Since we have an woefully inexperienced batting line up. Experience seems to play too big a part in matches in VC4 for my liking. :@

Also you got plenty of 60 odd and 50 odd batsmen.
